Receiving Social Security Survivor's Benefits?

My son's father passed away at the age of 21. He really was so young and didn't work enough or pay into SSI enough. Is my son entitled to anything since his father was so young when he passed away?

Your best answer is to go to your local SS office (not telephone) and ask your question.

You should take lots of documents with you:
SS cards/numbers for your husband, your son, and yourself. Marriage certificate, death certificate, birth certificate for your son. Having these with you may/will save having to make an additional trip to SS office.

My daughter's father also passed away at the age of 21. I checked to see if she could get ssi or survivor's benefits. I could not because he didn't have enough work credits yet.

However, this was back in 1981 when I applied. Rules may have changed since then. I would suggest that you go ahead and apply. The worse thing that can happen is that they say no.
