I filed for death benefits on August 02, 2016. They said that I should have my check by the beginning of September and I still have not received my money. I have been to my local Social Security board office and they say its in the payment center and they can't do anything! So what do I do to get my money?

Have you tried calling their 800 number or perhaps go to a different SS office??
That is ridiculous. It is your money and you are entitled to it. I would go in person. Try to see a supervisor.
You should hire an attorney to speak for you. My situation is similar with my grandson. I have contacted the SSA six times in two different states and many telephone calls, along with speaking to a supervisor in person, with promises of we will resolve this matter in two weeks.
When you state "death benefits" are you speaking of the $255 check for death of a spouse? Or do you mean something else? I'm assuming you were the spouse and that you were living together at the time of the death. (As a general rule - unless instructed otherwise - the funeral home director will file for this benefit - either to pay part on the cost or to give to the spouse.)
If the $255 is what you're referring to - I'm not sure you could hire an attorney for that amount of money.
You can file a complaint at either of these sites and someone will either help you get the check or they will give you a reason why not.
