Does anyone have any good ways to fix beef cube steaks? I bought 10 packages at a good sale a few weeks ago, but I only know one way to fix them (pan fried w/gravy).

We love them on the grill. A little Worcestershire sauce and some onion powder and it tastes like a chopped steak!

I have found this to be a great recipe, dredge the cube steak in flour and fry in pan with shortening. Fry till browned. Add maybe a 1/4 C. flour, about a Tablespoon or more of dried onion, enough Gravy Master to color and 2 bouillon cubes, add enough water to cover. Bring back to a boil and reduce heat. Cover and cook about 45 minutes to an hour, still occasionally. Serve with mashed potatoes. Makes a delicious gravy.

My mom always made what she called Swiss Steak. You bread the cube steak in flour. Fry on each side in a frying pan and a little oil until the flour is browned. Put in a shallow pan and cover with the following:
A can or two of tomato sauce (depending on how many steaks you are cooking) and a tablespoon or two of Worcestershire sauce. You could also add some finely chopped onion and some pepper. Cover with foil and bake at 350F for 45 minutes. They are really tender and yummy. We used to serve them with rice and the tomato sauce after cooking with the steak makes a good gravy.
I make everything with a little of this and a little of that so feel free to add minced garlic or use spaghetti sauce instead or even some salsa (it may not really be Swiss Steak then but who cares. They probably have nothing to do with it anyway).
I think the key here is the steak cooks in the sauce to tenderize it and makes a nice gravy.
I spray a little 'Pam' in a non-stick pan. Then I fry them on high until they are a little browned. Then I throw in a can of stewed tomatoes, and let simmer on low for about 20 minutes. Makes them tender, juicy, and tasty! (10/26/2004)
You can cut the steaks into strips and flour, salt, and pepper them. Then fry them until browned. Then you have "steak fingers." Steak fingers and gravy are YUMMY! (10/29/2004)

As a newly wed in 1980 I got this recipe:
Onion Steak (Quick & Easy!)
Roll cubed steak in flour and place in microwave safe dish.
Sprinkle 1 package of Onion Soup Mix all over meat. Add 1 1/2 cups of water. No need to really stir a lot.
Microwave 10-15 minutes till meat is done.
Stir and pour over mashed potatoes or rice. (11/03/2004)

Dredge steaks in milk and egg then dip in saltine cracker crumbs then fry in oil until brown. Serve with potatoes and white gravy for country fried steaks
