Recovery Time for a Puppy with Parvo?

My 5-month-old American Bully has been diagnosed with parvovirus and was admitted to a vet clinic for almost 5 days. The vet allowed us to take him home even though he was not eating yet.

That day (when we took him home) was his second day of drinking the water on his own and taking meds orally. He was active for 2 hours after getting home, but then started to get lethargic again. He refuses to drink water, too. We cannot afford to take him to the vet again and it's a little far from home and we have to commute him to get there.

I do not want him to be stressed again just because he needs to be checked by the vet. Today's his second day here at home and he's still the same (lethargic and doesn't drink on his own). He has not pooped and vomited since yesterday. We have been supporting him with fluid around the clock. We force feed him with oatmeal so he can continue taking meds orally.

What can you say about his situation? Is he just recovering? Is it possible that he just got stressed from the travel (from the vet to home)? Do you have any suggestion on what we have to do? Thanks a lot!

As long as he isn't throwing up again or pooping blood you fine for now. Just keep giving him water and don't force feed him. I know you need to give him some foods so he can take his meds, but it is better to see if he will do this on his own.

Cooked pasta or white rice is also very good for a dog recovering from Parvo. Just make sure he is getting plenty to drink and his medication on time.

If you are giving him liquid, he will not get dehydrated. The fact that the diarrhea is gone and he is not vomiting is good. Some dogs recover more slowly than others, but it seems that he is recovering.

Thanks a lot! He's okay now. He vomited once (the yolk that we forced feed him) then he drunk water on his own. The next morning, he became normal and started to eat again.
