Recycling Dentures?

Bronze Feedback Medal for All Time! 179 Feedbacks

My husband passed away over 5 years ago. I still have the full set of dentures that he wore. Any ideas about where to get rid of them? The dentist didn't want them back.

You can recycle using the Japan Denture Recycling Association. They remove precious metals from the dentures and sell them. The proceeds help UNICEF

You have my deepest sympathy on your loss!

No one in the US will take them to recycle or reuse. They are too hard to fit.

Here is the link to the place Judy posted from Japan. I would contact them via email to make sure they still do this. Shipping to Japan will not be cheap, depending on the package. Ask your postmaster if they have an international one price box you can use:

Surprisingly, people sell lots (meaning more than one pair) on eBay as gag gifts and Lord knows what else...I am amazed, but this grouping SOLD (not someone asked, but someone actually forked over) $70!

There is an ick factor to selling, but why not! Use the money to donate to your husband's favorite charity!

You may need to speak Japanese if you wish to contact the company in Japan.

I do know that some Dental schools will take dentures but not sure which ones. You may have to call a few and see if any are interested. Here is a list but you may want to start with the ones in your state.

You might get someone to list them on eBay and make a few dollars to give to charity. As Pghgirl mentioned, they sell used dental "stuff" all years.

Our local Lions club collect them for needy people. Ask around your town and see if there is a drop box somewhere. Our drop box is the eye Dr's office.
