I have the yellowish parquet flooring in the back section of my house. Do I need to sand the floor down if I want to make it a darker colour?

Some people say no, but it gives the best finish (my opinion).
There are a ton of videos that can help you in the process:

This is a hard job and if you are not adept, it may be best left to a pro....but I say that because in things like this, I am not successful. I have had too many DIY fails which cost more to fix than if I had started with a pro in the first place. Just me though!

There are so many options online, but often to get the best look, and even look, there is some sanding involved to take of dirt, oil, and other build up.
The sanding will give the new stain something to stick to. I would say yes.
For best results in refinishing any type of floor is to prepare the floor before you stain it again. That would mean that you'd need to use a light sand paper to take off any old wax or build up on the floor.
