I have a solid oak rectangular shaped coffee table I bought 30 years ago and the problem is it has smoked glass for the top and is now scratched and outdated. I would like to refinish the wood and replace the smoked glass with something else to update it. Any suggestions?
How about tiles or a mosaic? (02/28/2008)

Visit your local glass, and mirror shop with the dimensions you want and a photo of the piece of furniture. They tend to be really good about custom orders ! (02/28/2008)
How about a board covered with a textured or colorful fabric or even carpeting. Or you could attach wooden trays or boxes underneath, fill with rocks, seashells or momentoes then add clear glass on top.
I would paint it, easier than refinishing.
