Bronze Post Medal for All Time! 105 Posts There are many times that we decide to change our home and the color scheme. This leaves us with lamps and other items that no longer fit the color scheme in our home. Here is a simple craft project that is easy to do and allows you to makeover any lamp in your home. This is also great if you have a lamp that is starting to rust or the paint is peeling off the lamp base.
Total Time: 4 to 5 hours
Yield: 1 lamp
Supplies:
- 1 lamp
- sandpaper
- paintbrushes
- varnish
- old rag
- paint -' your choice of colors
Steps:
- Sand down the lamp with your sandpaper to remove any rust or flaking pieces of paint.
- Apply your first coat of paint to the entire base of the lamp. This one is best if you use a metal base paint or rust paint. Do not use spray paint to do this step. Allow this to dry fully.
- Take your next color and add the paint to the top of the base paint. My base paint is black. My second color is silver. Choose the areas that you want the paint to be. You will need to allow the first coat to dry fully and add a second coat of paint. Allow this coat to dry.
- Add your next color of the paint. I am using aqua sea-green paint for my lamp. Apply the first coat of paint to the area you want and allow this to dry. You will need to add a second coat of paint and allow it to dry.
- You can use a sponge to dab some paint on the base of the lamp, highlight some areas by lightly brushing paint over the base coat to give it an antique look.
- When done, add a coat of varnish to the paint if you are using acrylic paint and not a metal-based paint.
