I was leaving church last Sunday and right around the corner I caught sight out of the corner of my eye, this square table. At least I thought it was a table. Well the young man that takes me to church said did you see that? Yes!
He turned around and we got out to look at it. The piece was unusual and beautiful. It actually was an old fire pit, a very expensive one. This piece was heavier than I am. The woman came out of her house and asked if we needed help? Here it was free, and it wouldn't fit in my friend's car. This generous woman who has a large van, helped us get it in her van and followed me home and helped bring it in my house!
There are no supplies needed for this project other than cleaning ones. I scrubbed down the wrought iron underneath. The top is all inlaid marble squares. I scrubbed them with a brush and cleaner. Then used polish on the top.
Done!
The next morning I called a glass company, they sent a guy out to take measurements and put in a 1/2 " thick beveled edge glass top on it! I found the glass company here in my own home town. (I believe in giving business to locals first.)
Brilliant idea to have custom glass in the center. This will look beautiful!
Glad you had the foresight to make use of this piece.
It's beautiful.
Thank you both for your comments. I love picking up free things, cleaning them up, either, painting, staining, or like this one, all I did was scrub it down, and have custom glass made for it! I love my new table!! Right now it sits in my dining room, and will serve as a buffet table. Christmas it will be a beautiful place for my village!
