I have noticed a lot of people wanting an acne remedy. Here is one from Dear Abby years ago. Mix one egg apply to face as a mask, let dry and wash away. Do this on a daily basis at first then decrease as face gets clearer. This really works and is very cheap to do. Just pretend the messy egg is an expensive mask. It came from India according to the article. My son used it effectively after years of doctors' visits and costly creams. Good luck.

It is the whole egg. I do not know if it is drying to the skin, but could not be as bad as the over the counter or RX meds are. They are very drying. (02/04/2006)
I have found that after washing your face use calamine lotion on your acne and go to sleep with it on. During the day I use the clear calamine lotion before putting on makeup and it seems to be working wonders. (02/15/2006)
I remember that article. Egg yolks are excellent for clearing up acne. They are high in vitamin A which is what many prescription acne meds contain. Egg whites are excellent for tightening the skin and reducing the appearance of pores. Like a mini face lift. You can use them separately or mix the whole egg together and get double duty.

This is going to sound totally stupid, but this actually worked. I had a zit on the side of my nose and it seemed the more I cleansed, the worse it got. Out of desperation, I put diaper rash ointment on it and left it there. Did I look silly with a big white glob on the side of my face, heck yes! But 2 days later, I am zit free. I have dry skin too. Hope this helps

Oxy. Seriously, I have had acne since I was a teenager and am almost 27. I tried everything, Clearasil, dermatologist pills, masks, natural remedies, changing my diet, and yes, ProActiv. While ProActiv works, it does get expensive. A friend suggested Oxy (yes, the cheap drugstore stuff). I swear by the stuff now. Oxy wash with benzoil peroxide once a day, then Oxy salycic acid pads 2x a day under makeup like a toner if you wear makeup.
The first week, it might irritate your skin, but after that it is great! I still get a breakout every now and again right before my period, but if I up the wash to 2x a day, it clears me right up. Good luck with your quest. We all have different skin though. I have oily skin with large pores, so it could be too harsh if you do not. (12/15/2006)

I never really had acne in high school, but had a big problem with it in college. I tried all sorts of stuff, ProActive, antibiotics, creams, scrubs, and even the egg yolk. Finally, my sister heard a tip from some older Asian man she worked with at the time. He said to take a fish oil supplement everyday. I figured I would give it a go and it really started to work in a matter of days.
As for a face wash, a dermatologist friend of mine said the best thing to do is to use gentle cleansers like Cetaphil. I use the store brand type since the real deal is kind of pricey. The combination of the fish oil supplements and the face wash will make a real difference! (11/28/2008)
