If it's an ongoing problem, you could have Celiac disease, an allergy to gluten. Or, it could just be an infection which your doctor can prescribe an antibiotic that will take care of it in a day or so. Or it could just be a case that some over the counter Imodium will cure. Diarrhea can have many causes. If it's an ongoing problem, you need to see your doctor.
First, see if you can determine what is causing the diarrhea and try to remove the source. For example, if you are lactose intolerant, stop eating the food with lactose, i.e. milk. And keep hydrated by drinking lots of water until the diarrhea subsides.
Diarrhea usually resolves itself, but if it's inconvenient or severe, the best solution is Loperamide. The most famous brand name is Imodium, but store brands are much cheaper. It comes in liquid, caplet and gel capsule form, as well as flavored tablets that doesn't need water to take. THe tablets are more expensive but very convenient if you're not by a source of water. I always have some in my backpack. Some formulations also include Simethicone, an anti-gas medication.
One dose (2 pills) is usually all it takes for quick relief.
Diarrhea can mean your body is trying to get rid of something that disagreed with you. You could try 24 hours on just water, then the next day, a very bland diet (rice, toast etc. It should be gone then. BUT - with a baby or a young child, don't mess about, see a doctor fast.
