My 5 month old Pit/Lab mix is losing patches of fur. It started with a patch on his head and we just figured he had scrapped it on something in the yard. But it's been a month or two and now that the fleas are coming around he is scratching way more than the other dogs, and he's making the hair loss worse.
Our other dogs are perfectly fine, they all eat the same food, and I can't afford a vet at the moment. He is happy and healthy aside from the patches. I've looked up mange and allergy symptoms and what you can buy to help, but like I said, finances are tight, so if there is a home remedy that I can use in the mean time, I'd like to know what is safe. He has such pretty fur. I'd hate for him to lose it all.

At this point, I doubt any "home remedies" can help. Your dog needs veterinarian help now for what is causing the hair loss. Mange, scabies, etc., are miserable for your dog and the fleas only make it worse.
It is hard for anyone who is not a Vet to say what is causing your dogs hair loss. But you need to find a way to see a Vet and have him diagnosed. To allow it to continue is likely to make it worse, and harder to fix. Home remedies are hit and miss. You need to find a way to fund your pets care. Perhaps some housecleaning jobs. A temporary fast food job until you have enough for a few Vet visits. Maybe a garage sale. Lawn mowing...Get creative. It is your responsibility to have medical care for your pets when they need it. As a last resort sick pets can be surrendered to the local Humane society for treatment and adoption.
My black lab midnite loses patches of hair from the middle of his back all the way to the back of him tail legs rump, etc. I've had him on antibiotics and steroids and shampoo from the vet all at once he will be ok for a short period and get it all back again 137$ every time.
I just want to say that my dog Millie looks like your dog and has the same problem. It is getting worse. I went to the vet and they did a crape test but couldn't find anything and now they are doing more tests. If I have the result, I will let you know what is it, it might help you as well, I hope.

Hi I have black Labrador, I just finish taking her to vet two months ago blood coming out both ears scratching, the bill $160 all up, later now she scratching right ear she just scratches bleeding, round patches I'm using aloe vera it's been one week I give it one more week, dosent heal I take her to vet, I have open access account my local vet it helps out treatment loved pets. Aloe vera kills most allergies such as pimples in humans so should work for animals I'm guessing good luck to me & my loved dogs.
I understand the cost of a vet because I have 6 pit bulls and I am always going to the vet for ear infections and skin problems. I am now checking out home remedies for every problem my dogs get.
Hey not sure when your post was but I've been told to use dawn dish soap to get rid of or kill any fleas or ticks or anything of that nature then I use a dry shampoo foam I found at Walmart to moisturize and feed my German Shepard a small amount of garlic at night and a raw egg with rice on her food in the morning
