I have a 4 year old dog. She is part Shih Tzu and part Yorkie. I have been putting virgin olive oil mixed in with her food. I use 1/2 teaspoon to one cup of food. I keep her groomed and clean. They have changed her food thinking she is allergic to the food. She still scratches and she also gnaws at her feet. She does not have fleas. I have given her Benadryl, but it only makes her sleepy. Please help.

Knawing at feet is a sign of food allergy in my experience with my dogs. I would put her on boiled chicken for a few days and see it it goes away. Feed her food with no by products, such as diamond dog foods, try the lamb meal and rice. They are about the same price as the others, although you usually buy a bigger package all at once.
Dog food with mostly by products and corn filler is one of the most common offenders of dogs and their sensitive systems. I changed my dogs over to diamond dog foods, lamb meal and rice a long time ago, and they do not itch near as much.

I buy a large bag at Tractor Supply and i have five dogs and it nearly lasts all month, because they eat less of it.

I would try the changing of the foods first. This is the most common reason for itching in doggies!
Here is a lady who knows a lot about dogs and she addresses some issues on yeast in dogs....

I knew a woman who had an old tiny pomeranian dog who had itchy skin. Her hair was falling out, and she didn't look long for this world. I went back to visit my neighbor about 3 months later and she greeted me with what I thought was a young replacement dog; nope, it was the same dog. She had used emu oil shampoo and rubbed the dog's skin with emu oil itself.
I am actually going to order this shampoo for my crew. It looks good and it has anti microbial and anti yeast properties in it and no soap. I will order the little bottle.
Keeping yeast off of skin is one way to keep itching aways. Lot of sugar, gargage dog foods, and such contribute to yeast on skin as well as other factors.

You may need to change food several times before you eliminate allergies. It took me 5 or 6 changes before I ended up with brown rice and canned salmon for my terrier.
One of the most common reasons for dogs to have itchy skin and chew on their feet is a yeast infection. There was a great article about it posted on here a little while ago from The Great Dane Lady.

This helped me with my dog who has suffered from this ailment for years. It breaks my heart to know she suffered so long needlessly. but even if this isn't your dogs problem, there is lots of imformation on other allergies and health issues that could be causing the itching.
I had a pit rescue that had no fur and was one large scab..spent a fortune on vet bills when my mom who was a nurse fifty years ago camup wth a medicated tar shampoo. This is for humans that have similar issues. It has a lovely clean smell.its not made from tar but has sulfur in it. I stared with daily baths .you could feel her skin soften up after two weeks we went to every second day the every third again after two weeks. Soon we were up to once a month.
