I'm a member of Weight Watcher's where we track our daily points consumed for the day. Sometimes with the best of intentions we'll eat something and it won't be a convenient time to write it down and then we'll forget and our daily point consumption won't be accurate.
What I do is I'll keep the container or packaging out on the counter as a reminder that I ate it and to write it down and track it. For instance if I snack at night on a cup of yogurt, I'll leave the yogurt container on the counter until I track it, then I'll throw it away.
If I eat something at work and I'm not home to track it, I'll leave the package/container in my lunch bag until I get home and then I'll track it and then throw the package/container away.
This allows me to track my points more accurately if I don't pre-track and just track for each day as I go.
