Recently I washed a load of laundry that apparently had ChapStick, or something waxy in it. It got spotted on maybe four or five of my favorite shirts. I took each shirt and scrubbed (and I mean scrubbed) each little spot individually with water and Dawn (which should be really good for greasy things) and then threw them in the washer and dryer.
When I pulled it out, it hadn't even touched the stains. They look exactly as they did before I scrubbed with Dawn. I'm baffled by this because I don't know what else could be as good as Dawn for getting our greasy stains. Any suggestions? Did I do something wrong?

Yikes....the dryer may have set the stains.
Dawn is my go to and usually gets everything out (I spill a lot).
My desperate go to is (if these are color shirts--test it on an inside seam to make sure it doesn't totally bleach out the color), use a home made oxi clean mix:
1 cup water
1/2 cup hydrogen peroxide
1/2 cup baking soda
Mix well. Take a white rag and dab it onto the stains --put something behind the stain so it doesn't bleed through to the back of the shirt.
Let it sit for an hour or so, then wash in cold. Do not dry again in the dryer. You may need to repeat a few times to get it all out.
I hope this works.
I would use Goo-Gone.
Girl, I have done this so many times lol. I lost a lot of clothes due to not knowing how to get the stain out. But I did find this thread that helped me last time. I did the iron trick on one item and the freezing on the other and they both worked. Although, I hadnt scrubbed the one I froze at all, so may be why that one worked.
Either way, Im attaching this site for you to check out. She has a few different tricks to try. Hopefully one works for you as it did for me! Good luck!

Wow wow wow! You dont know how much of a relief this is, Ive been trying for two weeks to get this stain out lol. So it turns out (and I found this out in the article you linked so thank you!) that the wax had actually come out a long time ago, it was actually the red dye that had stained!! With some rubbing alcohol it looks like its coming out!! Thank you :))
Try a water-free hand cleaner like GoJo or D&L Hand Cleaner - the type of hand cleaner folks use in their garage or workshop. They do a great job on laundry grease stains...just scrub the spots with an old toothbrush and the cleaner, then launder as usual.
Try hand washing it with detergent mixed with vinegar. It should lift it off.
Since chapstick is like a wax this is in your clothes. I woulduse the same trick I use when candle wax gets on the table cloth. You can heat up a hot iron and use newspaper over the top of this and just iron away.
