How can you remove from a carpet what appears to be a chewing gum or sticky type substance?
By James Doougherty from Philadelphia, PA
You might want to try icing it down with ice cubes until it's frozen and hard and then try scraping it up.
Try dabbing with peanut butter and let sit. The oil absorbs the gumminess and it usually comes right up.

I came home to find a big wad of white gum stuck to my new dark, wool rug. Any ideas on how to remove it safely?

Try WD-40, it's oil based and works wonders on gum. It washes out well also, just use soap and water. I usually spray some on the area and then spray some on a washrag, working the gum towards the tops of the carpet fibers to remove.
