Clean with warm water, white vinegar1/4 cup and 1 tb.baking soda, to a quart of water. Mix together.Soak about 1 dozen paper towels, and place inside.Leave over night!
Clean with a bleach solution. 1 part bleach to 10 parts water. Rinse thoroughly and dry.
Are taking about the guts of the machine or the basket part. I would venture to guess a smell is coming from the guts not the metal bead basket.
If you can open the machine and use canned air you may be able to clean out the gunk causing the smell.
If you are sure it is just the basket part, you can get activated charcoal at a pet store and put enough to cover the bottom in the basket, then close it up and leave it sit for a few days. Wash thoroughly before using.
