I'm making some jam and marmalade at the moment and have had some people save their old jars for me, but some of them have had pickled onions in them and i just can't get rid of the smell! Does anyone have any tips for me? I will be very grateful.
Try scrubbing them out with a paste of baking soda.
Fill with 1/4 white vinegar and 3/4 cold water. Let soak for a few hours or overnight if possible. This works for odors in plastic containers-maybe it will work for glass too! Good Luck!

I keep a lot of glass jars, but sometimes end up throwing them away because I can never get the smell of whatever was in the jar out of the lid. Does anyone have a good cleaner to get the smell out?
Plastic absorbs the smells and sometimes the taste. If soaking them in vinegar doesn't work, you may have to get different lids.
New lids dont work. Its the glass!
