How can I remove permanent black marker from my clear plastic hurricane panels without burning or scratching the plastic panel?

I would try the Mr Clean magic sponge, but first I would try alcohol or fingernail polish remover. Even before that I would draw over it with a dry erase marker and see if that works. I see I have all this backwards, it is late!

On most plastics, writing over the permanent marker with a dry erase marker will cause the permanent marker to rub right off. (04/10/2010)

My son wrote all over my flat screen plasma computer screen with black permanent ink. I came to this site and tried the pencil eraser. It worked! It didn't scratch either. I am so happy. Thank you all. (07/11/2010)
