My kids had a red permanent marker and they both colored on my great grandma's chair and also on my oak wood coffee table. How do I get it off with out damaging my furniture?

I cant take credit for this, I got it from here. I tried it and it worked! Use a dry erase marker. (04/16/2010)

Please check an inconspicuous spot first But I have found that sometimes it will come of with rubbing alcohol. On painted walls I've had success getting permanent marker of with the magic eraser. (04/18/2010)
