We are installing hardwood and removed the carpet only to find an adhesive that is impossible to remove. We have tried everything but it's like concrete.

It will chip some in places and will not bulge in other places. Can we install the hardwood over this? What can we do to try and remove the glue?

My friend just did this at his house a few months ago. He used boiling water repeatedly with a scraper. It took a lot of work.

Thanks a bushel!! We tried that to no avail. We finally used Goof Off Adhesvise and that did do the trick with about 2 applications, but with a lot of hard elbow grease. I appreciate all of the replies!!

You can soften the adhesive with boiling water or a blow dryer
