Removing Water Marks from Stainless Steel Dishwasher Front?

My dishwasher front is Stainless Steel and has these streaks that do not come out with the stainless cleaner I bought. Does anyone know how to get rid of these water marks?

Spray with WD40 and wipe with dry cloth. I learned this while working at a laundermat. We had to do this on the big triple loader washers.

It's an oil used for squeaky door hinges, automotive, etc. HomeDepot or any hardware store carries it.

You can use lemon oil that is used for furniture polish and any stainless steel sink or appliance, as well as, shower doors and faucets. Rub on and buff with a clean dry lint free cloth.

August 20, 20170 found this helpful

I use the spray Murphy Oil soap in orange . Spray it on, let it sit on the dishwasher for a few minutes and rub it in, then wipe ot off with a paper towel. You might have to do it a couple of times for the marks to fully go away.

I had stubborn stains on my stainless steel appliances. No matter what I tried the marks and streaks stayed put. I came on here and used the vinegar tip. I used a much stronger solution on a paper towel and then wiped clean immediately.

It took 3 wipings but it came out nicely. Then I took WD-40. Wow! My appliances have never looked better. Thanks for the tips. These actually work!!

Did the WD40 work?

November 17, 20162 found this helpful
Best Answer

No. I tried them all, the thing that finally worked well was a magic eraser (several times) followed by washing with warm soapy water

February 1, 20171 found this helpful

Next time make a paste of baking soda and hydrogen peroxide. Lightly rub the spots off with your fingers. you can feel them coming off. Using a wet microfiber cloth, wipe off residue.

Now apply WD-40. Your appliances will look new. The WD-40 keeps fingerprints away longer. My dishwasher was really bad but the soda and peroxide was so easy. No elbow grease.

Here is the final, final solution. I read below and tried EVERYTHING.
BAR KEEPERS FRIEND is the only thing that worked!!! I can't believe that I wasted so many years with solutions that did not work. And no, I do not work for the company or know of anyone that does. I found it at Target and it is very inexpensive.

Horrible hard water stains from our well water. Tried vinegar/water mix, olive oil, WD40 - all provided minimal help. Silver polish (just the cheap stuff you buy at Walmart for your silver serving dishes) did wonders!

A bit of baking soda on damp cloth wiping with the grain takes of hard water spots and streaks with ease. Then WD40 to shine.

September 25, 20190 found this helpful

I tried the vinegar, the olive oil, two different stainless cleaners. They all did absolutely nothing. So I used a product called Mr. Metal. Rubbed it on, let dry, buffed off as much as I could. Then used stainless steel cleaner to completely remove it.

It went from being a horrific mess to the look of brand new. I read about the silver polish...I had not considered that one...great idea, because the underlying problem with staining is that it is stuck in the tarnish....who woulda thunk it.....lol

Ok. Here is the best and easiest way I have found to get those water stains off my stainless steel appliances. I have been trying everything that I read and I found that none of them have worked. I went to the store to find Barkeepers Friend, because it was also recommended, but the store didn't have it. What it did have saved my appliances! Both products are made by Weiman. The first one I used was the Metal Polish. Worked like a dream! The stains came right off (and I have been fighting them for 2 years!) next I used the Stainless Steel Cleaner and Polish (this one I already had, but it just cleans finger prints etc. not water stains). The cleaner cleaned up the Polish residue. That is it. So simple. I know it is not some special concoction, but it works perfectly. Enjoy your stainless steel again, I am!

I tried everything including Bar Keeper's friend and nothing worked. Finally, I stopped in a hardware store and they recommended Brasso Metal Polish. This did the trick! It has a very fine abrasive, so be sure to rub in the direction of the grain and be prepared to use a little elbow grease. It completely removed the drip marks from the front of my stainless steel fridge!

Ok took me an hour, used silver polish and then used the water and vinegar mixture. The silver polish was a bear to try and rub off so the mixture helped with that. Get ready if the water stains have been on there for awhile. It will take more than one polishing and alot of rubbing. Good luck, but I did get mine out.

I had stains that looked like water drip tracks. I tried rubbing alcohol and vinegar, neither of which worked. Then I tried silver polish--I found a very old, cheap bottle among my cleaning supplies. After having already tried many of the posted solutions, I was struck by the suggestion of metal polish. So I went to the garage to see what I had. The closest possibility was car polish (Scratch Doctor by NuFinish) and WOW did that work! Those nasty drip marks that had persisted through all my other cleaning attempts are now gone, gone gone! I followed with water on a microfiber cloth, then buffed lightly with a dry cloth. Should mention that silver polish might work, too, as my rag had that same gray/black residue after polishing that you see when you clean sterling with silver polish.

I came back to this thread because the suggestions on here really worked. I had rust and set in hard water stains on my stainless steel dishwasher and fridge from YEARS of neglect from myself and kids. I tried stainless steel polish, soap and water, diluted vinegar, full strength vinegar but nothing worked. After reading this thread I remembered that I had barkeeepers helper, I whipped that out and it worked beautifully!! For set in stains it will definitely require some elbow grease, but the results are worth it. I soaked a sponge in water and sprinkled a generous amount of barkeeepers directly on the sponge, then began scrubbing. Wiped everything off with a terry cloth towel. Worked like magic.

The best way to clean your stainless steel appliances is:

1. Put vinegar in spray bottle and spray SS appliance and wipe with the grain to clean.
2. Put Olive Oil on a paper towel and wipe in the grain direction.
Guaranteed no water marks or streaks!!!

So I have had water streaks on the bottom pull out freezer drawer since we moved in a year ago and inherited this refrigerator. I have tried all the recommended remedies to no avail. Everything either just covered them or failed to remove them and didn't cover them. Today, I saw someone posted here to use a magic eraser which I luckily had on hand. With a lot of elbow grease and determination it completely removed the water marks that I was becoming convinced could not be removed. Thanks to the person here that provided this tip and I hope my writing this saves someone all the time I have wasted trying all the other remedies that are found all over the internet and are completely useless.

The absolute easiest, no elbow grease, water spot removal is mixing a paste of baking soda and hydrogen peroxide. Use your fingers to gently rub it on the stainless steel washer door. Wipe off with wet microfiber. Finish off with WD-40.
Bonus: Hydrogen peroxide and baking soda get the stains out of those plastic cutting boards.
Bonus#2: hydrogen peroxide in your fountain or bird bath keeps them clean.

OK, I tried: vinegar, wd-40, Earth Friendly creamy cleanser (a green type of Soft Scrub), and olive oil. NONE of them worked. The closest was the wd-40, however once it dried, you could see the streaks re-appear.

And then I tried Barkeeper's Friend (its in a powder can like Ajax) and VOILA!!! All the streaks are gone, even the ones on my fridge where my husband spilled water 8 yrs. ago.

I used micro-fiber clothes only on my appliances. I turned the powder into a paste with water, rubbed it all over, let it sit for five minutes, then wiped it off with a damp cloth. Then I used my regular stainless steel polish spray to finish it off.

I read through these and used a 3 step approach on a used Dishwasher I bought. The place that sold it to me tried to clean it, but the water stains were still there. I used a 50/50 Vinegar/water mix, that got the easy marks, but I could still see the residue from the one bad water mark. Then I hit it with PAM (Olive oil), and that got most of the water mark. I finished it off with WD40, and OMG, it now looks new!

October 3, 20190 found this helpful

Those water stains and streaks are caused by oxidization of the metal and most cleaners/oils just mask the problem. I finally read about using Wrights Silver Cream (available at my grocery store) and it removed every bit of the streaks and stains. Then I used CLR stainless cleaner/polish to give it a good shine and provide protection.
