Don't know if you found an answer but I have had perfect results with this: I spread a thin layer of mayonnaise on spot and let it sit for about 15 minutes. I make a paste of baking soda and water and rub it on the spot with a warm damp washcloth. You can even use your fingers but I think the cloth works best. After you do this clean the table top with a warm damp cloth and then dry with a dry soft towel. Once you have done this, put a small amount of olive oil on a dry cloth and rub it in and buff it dry. This process never has failed to work and I haven't had the stress associated with the iron method. This process takes only about 30 minutes including the wait time for the mayonnaise. I have used this on 2 very expensive wood tables after a recent family holiday get-together.

Do you clean off the mayo before putting on the baking soda rub?

So I tried this and the mayonnaise made my stain darker than the rest of the wood not.

Yes, I myself tried the iron. I put mayonnaise on the whole table for one hour and wiped it off. Stains gone! Looks fantastic!

I have always heard to use mayonaise. Google for details.

Using a mixture of mayonnaise and cigarette ash is amazing. Just rub it in and wala looks new.

The white marks are likely from water, so therefore, more white marks mean too much steam. Try another method. I know that my mother removed some water stains from a wooden tray for me, but unfortunately, I don't know what she did.

Try googling for info.

I tried the same method. White mark came back seconds later. I took the hot iron directly to the table and they are gone. After this i applied coconut oil too the table. These were older spots also, still rough where the spots were. I plan on refinishing with epoxy so no worries in the future.

I've had the white marks problem too. This is what worked for me.
Ask a smoker to save their cigarette ash.
Mix it to a paste with vinegar,

Rub it well into white make.
Stubborn marks may need 2 applications.
