I have a bedroom in a holiday house which is not used very regularly. The carpet has been damp a couple of times and when the house has been closed for a while it smells very musty. Is there anything I can do?

Pull back the carpet and padding and run a fan. Be sure you have no mold while you are at it. If so, you need to get rid of it.
First because the issue causing the water leaks is resolved ASAP! Otherwise you will continue to have issues.
Then be sure that the water hasn't caused mold on the subfloor. I suggest ripping the carpet out and disposing of it. Wet carpet that already has an odor is nearly impossible to fix.
If there is mold, depending on how bad, you may want to call in a pro to remediate the issue. Mold is dangerous so be very careful not to be around it forcextened time.
