Repairing Bobbin Cover on Singer Treadle Sewing Machine?

I just inherited my grandmother's 1921 Singer treadle sewing machine. I had it five minutes and I broke the cover off of where the bobbin goes. I slid it out and I thought it came off, it snapped off and now it won't go back on! What do I do?

There is usually a groove where it just slides in. Old machines are metal and pretty sturdy.

I believe it does slide on a groove but it is sometimes difficult to get it to start correctly. Look closely and see if you can tell that it has grooves but you may need something to make it slide more easily. Maybe a little oil or bar soap on the edges (just be sure to clean it good afterwards).

There were several models made around 1921 but I have links to 2 manuals so maybe one of them will be similar to yours.
