Repairing a Disney Stuffed Toy?

Repairing a Disney Stuffed Toy - plush Lady of Lady and the Tramp fameSo this is a long winded question. Basically I've had this Disney plush since 2000 as it was sold at my local Toys R Us. It came with a VHS package for Lady and the Tramp 2, Scamps Great Adventure. Unfortunately, over the years she was a little too loved and has developed some holes and her under coating on under her fur is starting to pop up which was once covered.

I have the tag, but have been back and forth with Disney forever trying to find the company that made her. She was a limited edition and had to be produced around 1998-1999 as she was sold in stores around Valentine's Day 2000. I have the no. reg no. number which is Made by Not Reg. No. 24H4480. I also have a list of all the factories that produce for Disney the only problem is there are over 200 in China alone. I'd assume it was made in China via the tag. The barcode on the packaging led back to Walt Disney Home Entertainment Buena Vista, California. However, their consumer department told me due to the age of the product they no longer have that information. I find that a bit hard to believe because she's part of their property and if someone tried to reproduce (potential lawsuit) her they would have all the evidence that they made her.

Some toy companies told me Disney made it themselves and others said it was made in China. The question is where? The reason for going to them is because I'm trying to find the plans on how they made her because if I'm going to pay a vintage repair store to fix her, I want it done exactly like the manufacturer did. I'm pretty serious about this issue as I've written to the president (lol longshot) and I wrote to Bob Iger who another person in FL received it and didn't help at all. He was some supervisor at the World resort. I would truly appreciate any insight you may be able to offer. Note the pictures are what she semi looks like. This one is exactly the same except it's her twin. Made from the same materials and everything I just don't have a picture of mine to upload.

I believe you are working on a losing battle as a company in China made this toy and they made it to Disney's specifications and those plans would never be released to anyone.

I do not believe you can duplicate the material but a good restorer may be able to take your 'twin' and come up with very similar material.
I have seen very good restorations of vintage toys but as you know, any type of work like this will be very costly (and the price will probably go higher if they find out how much you like this toy).

Sorry you are having such a difficult time with this project.
Perhaps you could find a similar one on eBay and use the fabric on your toy.

yeah but if I can find the company that made it, there might be hope that they have something. The worst part is it's from stupid disney and they don't give a crap about anyone. I've found other companies have older materials for previous merchandise in the archives sometimes will give it to you but you got to find them. Someone made it and I intend to find out who. I have a list of all their factories but there's like 200 in china alone. I thought maybe the reg origin number or the crap on the back of the tag above her materials used list might have it. Restores won't charged as much as you think if you might a decent hearted one. The materials list alone would tell you the string used I just don't have experience with stuff like that.

I mean it's just a freaking string is I was able to get the exact one from the company I would just have a restorer but it back together. Her other one is in tack and it's just a matter of stitching it up and have it look like the other side. It was limited edition so they don't have many of her and plus it'd be bad to take the string from one plush and use it for the other. Trust me, I'd rather waste my time making a time machine to prevent this than waste my breath with disney. There are ways to find the information, I just gotta keep looking.

I don't really want the plans just and idea from the company on how they would go about fixing it. Like you said, a good restorer is pricey but if I can get a game plan going in, I could get this right.

It's just about finding a decent hearted person. For 21 years old, she looks damn good but I feel like she needs a little work to hold up for more years to come.

I can understand how you feel and I hope you are successful in finding someone to help you but a company in China? Not so sure but you never know. I think one problem will be that Disney did not use the same companies and it's for sure they will not provide you with any production details.
Have you thought about discussing this with any local or even online forums? There are a lot of these available and they might have some good ideas.

Because this is a reproduction and made in china, it does not have a large value. Taking to a vintage repair is a choice. There are a lot of seamstress, alterations shops out there that could do the job, it's not vintage or collectors.

well that is most likely the one option I'm considering, however, the whole point of finding the manufacturer is because I no longer have the original string that was attached to her cheek. I'd have to get an exact one to match the opposite site. Disney doesn't do much due to its age but it's still their property and they should know something about her.

More than likely nobody will ever give you the plans on how the toy was made. They are normally copyrighted and they are not for sale at all. You may need to find a company that can actually rebuild the dog for you like you want it without the plans. I tried to check on the plans that company lists for patients and there is nothing at all on there that you could actually use. I know a lot of times when a company puts in for a new toy they have to submit plans to the patient site in order to get their patient. I have found a lot of useful information on this site many times but this time I am not finding anything there. You can search further there and see if you can find anything about the toys that Disney makes and see if you can find the string you are looking for on any of their patients.

Well, my original plan is to find the material used specifically from the company although all the information comes from the home entertainment location in buena vista, CA except due to the age they won't tell me how produced it. I know the patent was filed in 1998 because I got her in 1999. She's in excellent condition still and I don't want to replace her rather fix her. If I'm going to do that I just need the material missing to hold the ear in place. I'm not going to tell a stuffed animal restorer how to do their job but I want her to look the same and a little more refreshed for more years to come. I don't want the plans exactly just an idea from the company. I just can't locate the company

This is basically what I'm dealing with. Just the undercoating popping up where it use to be hidden and the small tear in the ear and the cheek. Along with the missing string. The way the string was designed was it was attached to one end and looped through a small hole in between the inside of the ear and then attached to the other side. I have a twin like her and the design is exactly the same and that's where I got the tag information. Her original one was exactly the same but got washed away over the years. Not sure if there is anything you can go off of for the tag.

anyone got any thoughts? I was thinking that since it came from china that it would have gone through u.s. customs and if you're able to find the documentation of the shipment to their address, you'd most likely find the supplier. I'm just not sure how possible it is to find shipment papers between 1998-2000
