I appreciate all your help with my flea market find, a beautiful Kenmore model 52. I got the feed dogs unstuck with all your help. Now I took off the needle clamp assembly. It was very dirty and I'm having problems getting it back together. Where does that little black piece fit into needle clamp?
Also original Kenmore motor runs great says it takes oil? Regular sewing machine oil or tri flow oil?
Thanks again for all your knowledge I'm new at this.

As a general rule most sewing machine people say to use only high grade sewing machine oil. Not sure about any other except to never use WD-40.
I have not taken any machines apart so I cannot help with your 'part' placement but I highly recommend that you join the sewing machine forums recommended before especially now that you are trying to do all of the cleaning yourself. I did not see anything like this in the manual so that will not be a help in this instance.
Sears Service Centers do offer help but most likely you will have to take your machine apart to place this in the correct spot and that would call for a service job.
This particular forum is very good and usually answers very quickly so try them out even if just reading some of their comments.

Here are some links for the manual that may help you now and it will also give you information for your sewing machine in the future:

If you have taken off the needle clamp and forgot how it went back together it is super easy to fix. It is hard to explain how to do this one and so I have found a video for you to watch that will teach you how to put this back together.
