We have a broken a headboard post with our last move. The break is at the narrow logical point below the carved upper and the square below. The broken grain fibers need to fit perfectly when repaired. I would really like to use a dowel (inserting it at least 2.5" into each broken end). The tricky part will be centering the dowel so that both halves slide back together. I do have a plan, but would like to have other opinions before tackling this project.

Sorry to be late in answering your question but my copies of ThriftyFun always arrives a day later than when posted(?).
Are you trying to repair your bed post without using glue?
Sorry Judy - Judys suggestion would be a good idea but the Chair-Loc Co. went out of business several years ago and I do not believe you will find it for sale. But they do make similar products that can be used. This type of product is not glue as we normally think of "glue" but it is supposed to swell the fibers and lock them in.

E6000 glue is a very good product:

Questions in newsletters can go out as much as a week after they are posted, depending on how many entries we receive. Usually, it is within 2-3 days. Not all questions go in all newsletters, and some aren't chosen to be put in a newsletter at all.
If you want to make sure to get to the questions as soon as they are active, you could check this link:

Thanks for all your thoughtful and well written answers!
Thanks Jess - I was not complaining as I love reading all of the newsletters (and I receive every type you offer). I believe my protection program sometimes slows up my emails as i see that others have already commented on postings even if I open my newsletters right away. This is no problem.
I hope that some of my answers give the type of answer that I would like to receive - if I were the one asking the question.
Your answers are always great! I'm continually impressed with the resourcefulness of our members. :)
