How to Repair a Rip in a Suede Upholstered Recliner:
Step 1
Make sure you know which way it's fraying so you don't make it worse while you handle it
Step 2
If it is fraying, use a product like Fray Check to keep it from ruffling up more
Step 3
Thread an upholstery needle and get ready to sew
Step 4
Pinch the 2 edges together as you sew
Step 5
Keep your stitches small and as close together as possible
Step 6
On your last stitch, pull the thread until there is a loop, then pass the needle through this loop twice, securing a knot.
If you need a visual aid to do this, here is a great one:
Atossa's advice is true if it is a suede type woven fabric.
If it is real leather suede, you will need to do as colville123 suggests and use a sub patch to attach the torn edges from the back side.
Good luck and let us know how it turns out!
Use a leather patch repair kit.
Step 1
Insert the sub patch into the rip or tear. Glue it in place.
Step 2
Use a hair dryer to hold the patch on torn edges. The hair dryer will make the glue tacky.
Step 3
Put leather protector on the patch area.
Step 4
You may need to cover over patch area with a color that matches the couch.
