Replacement Certificate of Authenticity for a Dakin Collectible Koko?

We have a Dakin stuffed Koko gorilla made in 1986 I think. The original tag and card that was attached to the neck is missing. Since Dakin Inc. no longer exists, can this collectable be certified in some way? We are not interested in resale, just in having it completely original.

Probably most of the Dakin Koko gorillas still around do not have the paper tags anymore but all had a Dakin tag (by law) showing name and other information (laws changed over time).
If your gorilla has a Dakin tag it should be considered authentic and adding a COA would not make any difference as far as authenticity goes as these can be added and may not even go with the same plush. Most did not have a COA but just different tags with a little more information about the company selling the toy (not necessarily about the the company (Dakin) making the toy.

There were probably over a hundred different Dakin gorillas produced - different sizes from 14" to 52/54" and numerous companies contracted with Dakin to make their own style gorilla so not all will be the same - just similar.
It takes a lot of research to even find 2 gorillas that are exactly alike. Some were babies and some had kittens in their arms but all made by Dakin for different companies as I do not believe that Dakin actually sold one under just 'Dakin' but I cannot verify that.
Maybe Pghgirl will post more information on this.

You do not say what information is on your tag or the size of your gorilla but you may be able to find a match if you look on eBay listings now and later in the year as they always have several of these listed for sale.

You cannot refer to the asking prices as 'current value' because until someone actually buys one and pays that amount of money the asking price is a 'dream figure' that a seller would really like to receive for their item. You will find items like this that stay listed for months/years and may or may not ever sell. I know you may not plan to sell yours but everyone still likes to know the 'value' of their items.

eBay and Google are the best ways to look for a 'like' gorilla and also see how many different types/sizes were made but if you find a match to yours, and the seller shows a tag you could capture a picture and print it out (it would be about the same unless you had a really, really rare item). Just a thought......
You can also place a 'watch' on any item to see if it sells at a later time.

eBay has a link to their sold listings if you were looking for current value as this link shows what someone actually was willing to pay for an item and can occasionally offer something close to current value for identical items). This link shows sales made over the past several months - as of now it does not appear that any of the high priced gorillas have sold recently.

Sometimes you can buy the certificates on eBay.

Just be sure to look at it carefully to make sure it matches your plush.

You can also post wanted (for the COA and tags) on Facebook marketplace.

There is no way to certify the toy that I know of. Post back with an update!

I dont think there is any way to do this if the company no longer exists.

I would start on FB and post a thread there asking for help in getting a copy of the certificate you are seeking. Maybe someone there owns the same gorilla and can make a copy of there's for you.

That would be basically the only way I know of to get a new one.
