I have a cactus in a very small pot (between a shot glass size and a yogurt cup). It hadn't done much for years but now is growing taller and has 4-5 new parts protruding from the original plant. Each part is no thicker than my index finger. The original is about 8" tall and is being supported by a Tupperware lettuce corer. The whole plant is growing in no more than 3 tablespoons of sand. What should I do with it at this point?

The cactus needs repotting in a container about 1" larger than the current one. Be sure the new container has drainage. Get potting soil specifically for cacti. Fill new container about 1/3 full of the soil. Remove cactus from old pot, and center it in the new one. Hold it steady with one hand and fill the pot with soil with the other hand. Pack soil down around the plant so it will stand and not fall over. Wait a day or 2, then water. Then water as usual. This has worked for my cactus. Hope it helps you.
