In lieu of buying paint palettes, why not make your own? I have used paper plates before, but all the paint tends to run together eventually. With just a few supplies, you can have a palette that keeps the paint separated and is perfect for any age to use. The best part is by using these, it is helping the environment by not disposing of all those plates!
Total Time: 15 minutes
Yield: 3 paint palettes
Source: My experience teaching Pre-K.
Supplies:
- 3 old lids (from foods or containers)
- hot glue gun with sticks
- 25 bottle caps (soda, milk, and juice)
- 1 small cup (about 3-4 inches tall)
Steps:
- Place the bottle caps onto the lid to determine exactly where you want each one to be. Pick up one at a time and hot glue them back down. This one is made out of an old storage bowl lid and yellow soda caps.
- You can also use milk or juice jug lids. And using different colors can allow for younger kids to match the paint to the cap.
- If you want the paint brush rinse cup on the palette, simply leave off the middle bottle cap. It helps not to glue the cup down though, as it has to be emptied and rinsed frequently.
- If you have a child who likes painting at an easel, hot glue a soda cap onto the bottom of the lid. This will provide a knob to better hold onto the palette.
- A Cool Whip or butter lid also work wonderfully as a palette. The latter is in the main photo.
