I adopted a 3 year old Pit/Collie mix from a friend of mine. He was/is house and crate trained. He is adapting very well so far. He eats and drinks normally and loves to go on walks and car rides and has grown very attached to me. The only problem is he hasn't urinated or pooped in nearly 3 whole days! Since I've gotten him. I know it can take a while for them to adjust, but it can't be good to go this long without!
His previous owner is a friend of mine and she said he hasn't had any issues with going to the potty or anything, so we chalked it up to anxiety. But he's adjusting well in all areas except for going to the bathroom. I don't want to freak out or anything, but I am really worried. Any advice? Taking him to the vet is my last option, but I am nearly to that point. I want him to be happy and healthy!

You know what this is not normal. I know a lot of dogs especially rescue dogs that have been placed in one home and adjust to the family and home and then uprooted and moved have some issues. I'm not sure how long your friend had the dog before she allowed you to adopt the dog or not. Rescue dogs are more sensitive than other dogs, not saying other dogs are not sensitive, but a rescue dog has been abused. The love that your friend gave the dog was special and the dog bonded with your friend.
You may need to go to the vet with the dog if this continues for a long period of time. The dog can develop many problems if it is not peeing and pooping on a daily basis. I would ask your friend to come over and maybe go on a walk with you. The dog might feel comfortable with her around and take a pee and poop on the walk. The adjustment will take time like always but maybe with the help of your friend being there it can make the period easier for the dog.
It sounds like this is going to take time. This is a lot of change for him. Maybe a Vet visit would help!
Put the dog on accessories oiut.
It could be serious if your dog has developed stones in his bladder. You will probably need a vet anyway to keep him up to date on his vaccines, so this might be a good time to find a vet.
