Resizing a Men's Crocheted Skull Cap to Fit a Child?

How do I convert this pattern for a man's hat to fit an 8 yr old boy? Click here to see original pattern men's crochet skull cap I made it for his father and would like to make the same one for him.

Measure the man's size hat, and calculate the number of stitches per inch. Then measure the child's head, and calculate the number of stitches you need. As it is tight-fitting, you don't need to have extra. Then work for about 4" before beginning decreasing. Work out your decreasing pattern by noting how many stitches you finished with on the adult pattern. You will want to finish with the same number of stitches. Subtract that number from the stitches you have been working with, and there you have the number of decreases you will have to make.

For a head-hugging cap work 3" fitting in the decreases before finishing off. For a roomier cap work 4" .
