Two years ago, I purchased rectangular cooling gel pads to insert into my pillow cases to keep pillows cool for summer sleeping. When I wasn't using the gel pads, I stored them lying flat on a shelf. They were never damaged or punctured but this summer, when I tried using them, the gel flattened or may have evaporated, if that is possible.
I put them in the freezer overnight but they are still flat. Before I purchase new ones, I'd like to know if the ones I already have can be restored, and if so, how - and how should I store them after the summer?

I think there may have been some evaporation. Why don't you contact the company with these questions?
It sounds like they did somehow evaporate. You may need to go ahead and buy some more.
I'm sorry but there are so many different brands of rectangular cooling gel pads (even from the Dollar Tree) that it would be difficult to say how long these pads were intended to be used.
I can only suggest you contact the company and ask for their advice as they should be able to tell what caused the pads to change when not in use.
Update: Many thanks, one and all, for your comments. For clarification, I purchased these cooling pads via the internet, not at a dollar store. They are not at all like the squishy first aid gel kind that can be frozen and applied to black eyes, sprained wrists, etc. My cooling pads did not arrive with instructions for storing them.
Thanks for the new information.
When we do not have sufficient information it is very difficult to answer a question so I tried to explain that we needed to know what product you were asking about.
Since your cooling pads are very expensive you should be able to contact the company/site where purchased and ask for instructions on how to care for your pads when not in use.
many of these pillows have 3-5 years warranties so be sure to check this out also.
Could one of these be your pillows?

The tuck website you shared is for pillows - I'm asking about inserts that fit between a pillow and pillowcase. Recently I did purchase some gel pillows which I tried out first at the store - they stay cool to the touch but it is diffricult to find the right pillow that suits my neck and shoulders.
Sorry - I posted the wrong website but cannot find the correct one to post.
I hope the brand company will help you or maybe replace them.
Perhaps other members will have better luck answering your question.
A photo of your cooling gel pads would be very helpful.
So far, I can only guess.
Do you have Gel'O Cool Pillow Mats? www.amazon.com/
When you kept it, was there something on top? Did you store it in a dark place? As I understand it, this cannot be kept for long in a freezer.
Contact them www.human-creations.com/
I've discarded the gel pads and yes I did store them horizontally and never put them into the freezer until I found that they had flattened out over time. I was hoping I could get some more use from them, considering their cost. They were not pierced or damaged in any
way. The frugal lesson I learned is that they don't last long enough to justify their cost.
Again, thank you for helping me get answers. - Chris
