You need to replace the spring.
Try loosening the small screw under the handle as this will work on some irons.
I would suggest you Google the company name and find their web site.
Find contact information and send question/problem to them.
You may need your model number.
If a part is needed, it may be expensive.
If you find a way to loosen the cord it may be less expensive to just use it like the 'old fashion' iron and wrap the cord when not in use.
My cord was stuck in my iron. I thank you for the good advice you gave because I did exactly what you said and my my cord came right out.
Here's how I fixed it.
1. Pull the cord however far you like.
2. Push (don't use the button) the cord into the iron. The wrapped cord within the iron should loosen a bit.
