Has anyone tried that Smooth Away shaving thing? It's on TV, it's a pink plastic thing that has an abrasive side that you rub on your legs or wherever and it removes hair. If anyone has, do you like it and how long does your hair stay gone? Thanks!
Mindy from Washington, iN
Hi. I tried it. You are right, it works as an abrasive, similar to the way an emery board works on your nails. Unfortunately, it made my skin red and irritated, so I was only able
to do
a portion of one leg and never used it again. I was itchy and my skin felt raw for days. I normally don't have reactions like that but I did with this product. If you do try it, I
hope you
have a more successful experience than I did! (10/29/2008)

This is not the first time this product has come around. It's basically sandpaper and the product doesn't last very long because dead skin gums it up. As far as how long the shave
lasts -
no different than regular shaving methods. (10/30/2008)

I used it years ago for facial hair. While it does work well and won't irritate if you keep the touch very gentle, there's always a stubborn hair that will have you repeating the
motion
or a particular area. I had a raw upper lip from doing this and never used it again. I'd say it's probably decent for legs or bikini area if you don't mind a couple of possible
stray hairs. (11/10/2008)

I have tried Smooth Away and loved it. First, it's $9.99 - not the bogus $40 someone else posted below. I shaved for 30 years and never got my legs as smooth as with Smooth Away.

I saw this on TV but was skeptical. But I had a coupon for $10 at a local drug store and figured why not. It was $7.99 and came with a bunch of pads. I tried it on the coarse
thick hair on my legs, it worked well, but I think it would take forever to do your entire legs. Then I tried it on my chin and "mustache" area which I'm forever tweezing and
bleaching. IT WAS awesome. Took just seconds, the hair is gone and the skin is smooth and soft. I have no idea how this works but it does work! Maybe best for finer or thinner
hair like on your face, but it also worked on my legs. I'm so happy I made this purchase! (12/16/2008)

My daughter started to ask about shaving. I saw this in the Walgreens in the beauty section so I bought it for her as a Christmas gift. She loves it, so now I don't have to worry
about her cutting herself with razors. I highly recommend to mothers who want another option besides shaving and waxing. I mean its only 10 bucks its worth a shot. (12/29/2008)

Just an idea, I frequently buy things online and after a major billing fiasco (the Gunthy Renker/Chaz Dean conditioner), I purchased a Visa GreenDot card--it's a debit card that you
preload. I only put enough cash on it to cover my purchase; that way if someone tries to sneak extra fees in, the charge is denied and I'm saved the hassle of dealing with
nonexistent customer service. I think I pay $5.95/a month maintenance fee on the card, but it's worth it.
Also, Visa/Mastercard gift cards work well. I buy mine from my bank, but I've seen them in Walgreen's, which is where I bought the GreenDot card. (12/30/2008)

I bought Smoothaway from Bed, Bath and Beyond. $9.99 Buy it in a sstore so the infomercial companies cannot rip you off! It does work, but it takes a lot longer than shaving, so
it's a waste of time for that. However, what I do is I use the Smooth Away on my knees and elbows and then shave my legs, because I like how my smooth the skin on my knees feels
after using it. Great for exfoliating. But for legs I recommend just shaving them; 5 minutes in the shower tops, and you're done, so why fight it?
It's also good for facial hair if you have very fine light hair. Not sure if it's as good on courser facial hair. If you use on your face, make sure you do not overdo it or you
will end up with rug burn, just gentle circles 3x one direction anadn 3x in the other like the directions say. IF you need to do it more than once, I would recommend waiting until
the next day. Do a gentle once over at night before bed, then wash and moisturize; then do the same thing the next night.
After that you can probably get away with just a quick once over 1x a week. I love the way my face looks and feels after I use it and then wash and moisturize. Skin looks and
feels smoother. So I will continue to buy the refills, but like I said before if you want it for your legs then don't even bother. 1/2 hour minimum to do both, so it's faster to
shave. Just my opinion. (01/03/2009)

My family is middle eastern, and we have dark thick body hair. My aunt tried Smooth Away and said it worked, so I bought it at the "As Seen On TV" store for twelve bucks. It
worked really well on my arms- the hair is growing back very slowly and definitely looks finer. When I did it on my upper lip it worked, but stung afterward and the skin was hard
and scab-like for a few days, but that went away and the hair grew back slowly. It definitely doesn't work well for underarms. I gave up after rubbing for ten minutes with no hair
removal. As for legs, I would expect it to take a long time.
I'm going to stick with shaving my legs and pits, but definitely keep using smooth away for my arms and facial hair. It doesn't work as terribly as people are saying, and if you
buy it in an actual store then it's pretty cheap, considering you pay $12 bucks for one package that will last for probably as long as a pack of razor heads. (01/04/2009)

I am the one who originally asked this question and I finally broke down and bought it at Walgreens for $10. It worked on my arms and my hands really well, but will not work on my
face for some reason. It didn't hurt except on my face a little, also no rash. I think it just depends on the persons hair and their sensitivity level, it seems to work for some and
not for others. I probally will buy replacement pads because it did work wonderfully on my arms and hands and I loved the way my skin felt afterwards. Also, this was about 3 days
ago and still no stubble! I think if you can find it for $10 somewhere you should give a it a go, just be careful and followful the directions carefully and just try a small trial
area first so if you do get a rash it won't be so bad. Thanks for everyone's comments. (01/05/2009)

I don't know what all of these negative reviews are. I've been using this product since last summer and haven't had any problems. I have very coarse hair that grows very quickly,
and this product has seemed to decrease both of these issues greatly. I don't have nicks from shaving or razor burn. When I began using it, my boyfriend noted how soft my skin was,
which really surprised me because I was a bit skeptical after the first use.
I use it every three days or so. It doesn't work as well on armpits (for me at least). There seems to be a lot of curves that the pad can't really form to as well as a razor
can. But as for legs and bikini line and whatever else is hairy that I feel like getting rid of- it works really well. I can compare it to the way my legs felt way before I started
shaving- soft skin and if there is any hair left behind, it's very, very fine. Not a problem for me.
Maybe a lot of these other reviews are being written by people who haven't shaved in years? You should really try reading the directions and going along with the no-longer-than-
1/4" hair suggestion. Using it every 3 or 4 days is just fine for me. PS- I used to be called "Neanderthal girl" in gym during high school. So, I'm pretty sure you can take my word.
Try it. Don't order it off of TV or online- go to Bed, Bath, and Beyond and try the $10 version. (01/09/2009)

After reading all the negative feedback, I decided to buy "Braun Silk-epil Xpressive" electric epilator. The best $80 I have ever spent.
P.S. "Waterproof Sandpaper 240" does the same thing as Smooth Away. (01/13/2009)

I have lots of dark hair, thanks to my Greek roots and I am completely overwhelmed by shaving all the time. My best friend bought it and insisted it worked, but then again she has
light blonde hair. So I decided to use her Smooth Away on my arm to try it out and it really did take the hair off. I dont know how exactly but it did. I had no irritation, I made
sure to read the instructions carefully. It does take a little bit more time, but I definitely prefer using the smooth away on my arms instead of shaving them. (01/14/2009)
By Maria
First of all, Smooth Away does work. You don't necessarily have to rub in a circular motion 3 time clockwise and 3 times counterclockwise, that just means you have to rub back and
forth until the hair is removed. Second of all since it exfoliated your skin, if you do not moisturize with a non-scented alcohol free moisturizer, most likely your skin will be
irritated, and for the woman who used baby oil, oil clogs the pores on your skin, maybe that is why red bumps appeared on your skin the next day. (02/01/2009)

I bought it target for $9.99 and I found it works awesome. I have a thryoid problem and have hair growth on lip and chin. You really have to follow directions. And make sure face
is clean and dry. I even showed my husband and he was amazed how easy it worked. Skin can get sensitive if you go over it to much.
I lightly did and it is smooth. I would say yes for face for sure. (02/06/2009)

I bought 4 one for me and gave three away as gifts. I love it! I also use the lotion that came with it. I only use it once a week and sometimes less. I do follow directions and
start with clean dry legs no oils or lotion. When used as directed it really works. (02/11/2009)
By Joyce
I bought this thinking I would spend less time shaving, as waxing and other hair removal systems always irritated my skin. What a joke. I followed the directions to a "T" and
still wound up with irritated skin. I went back to my old standby "Epilady"! It hurts initially, but then you're fine. I didn't have to shave for 6 months after using my Epilady!

I have pros and cons: My mom actually bought the Smooth Away, and intended using it for facial hair, for example, above the lips. I tried the larger pad one night on my legs, and
found it actually did remove hair, but the smoothness is only felt when touching legs in a downward motion, not upward. (My legs were softer feeling though! The SmoothAaway won't
remove all hair, but seems like it would work in emergency situations, if you don't happen to have a razor blade. A really bad aspect to Smooth Away is that when I tried it Slightly
on my upper lip, it became irritated, and my mom said when she used it in the same spot it became scabbed and irritated for about a week. Gross.
If you already bought it, don't worry! Try this, it works for me at least: use a regular shaver to shave your legs, but before applying lotion or anything, (make sure legs are
dry) use the smooth away to exfoliate legs, leaving an even softer feel. I'm guessing that all the dead skin cells are what's removed away, which would usually just keep legs
feeling rough. Apply lotion after. This worked out for me, because usually when I shave my legs still don't feel too smooth, just hairless. The smooth away definitely can help as
basically an Emory board, for skin. Just don't use Smooth Away on you face for sure! (02/21/2009)

Half the people Love it the other half hate it. Im going to try and see for myself. Every one has different skin. (02/23/2009)
I personally really like the Smooth Away system. I've read the comments, and I don't find a lot of the negative comments written here to be a problem for me personally. While on a
recent trip to CVS, my husband Jamie saw a display of Smooth Away kits and decided to surprise me with it when he got home. He remembered me commenting on how much I'd like to try
it, every single time we saw the commercial on TV! What can I say? Dude's got an awesome memory!
I, of course, was super-excited and pretty much tore into the packaging when he gave it to me! Here are the Pros and Cons of this product, in my opinion:
PROS:
even eliminating the need to apply lotion after using,
or ingrown hairs to deal with,
not only to be gentle while buffing away the hair, but also, if needed, to use a hypoallergenic, fragrance-free lotion after buffing to reduce irritation (my personal fave -
Vaseline Intensive Moisture Locking Lotion Unfragranced); and finally,
CONS:
legs!),
Bottom Line:
For leg hair and light facial hair removal, I highly recommend trying the Smooth Away system; for underarm and bikini line hair removal, I'd still recommend shaving or waxing
(For those of you who have never had your armpits waxed, I'll be the first to tell you that it's not nearly as painful as you'd think it would be. It's totally worth the $10-$12 it
costs to get it done; for me, having my eyebrows waxed hurts 10-times more!).
So, there you have it! I hope this helped and that you found it to be useful and informative. Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!

I just wanted to let anyone concerned about losing money that if you purchase your Smooth Away from Walgreen's and are not happy with the results, Walgreens will gladly give you a
refund or exchange. Please make sure you have your receipt and it is with in 30 days of purchase if you are expecting a refund. Other than that, they will usually give you a store
credit in the form of a gift card or store exchange. (05/13/2009)

I haven't tried that, but I have tried the the little abrasive circles I got at a drugstore. Surprisingly, they work really well without irritating your legs. Caveat: the hair has to be very short, just stubble and it takes a while to go over a whole leg. Its good if your razor doesn't make you silky smooth, but really a bit of a waste. (10/30/2008)

Pros:
-Gets rid of hair... eventually
Cons:
-Takes FOREVER. you have to constantly smooth one patch of skin before all of the hair is gone.
-if you do it too soft, the hair wont go away, if you do it too hard... you'll notice scabby patches all over your skin the next day.
-Does not work on sensitive areas. It exfoliates the first layer of skin so it burns on the eyebrows and armpits.

Just received the product after waiting for a month. I saw their kiosk in the mall 5 days before mine arrived in the mail. Couldn't cancel my order as customer service is, well, there isn't any. They charge $6.99 per tiny box to ship it to you. I purchased 4 of these totalling $29.98 and the S&H total was $27.96. There's NO WAY it cost near that much to mail or handle. The shipment weighs less than 2 lbs.
Then try to get any kind of customer service. Any time you call, you get a recording that will automatically hang up on you.
Sad and very upset about these charges! (12/03/2008)

I ordered this product and my leg got irritated very fast. I have tried a lot of different products and this one was the worse on by far. I paid a lot for shipping and handling. I would stick to a razor! (12/08/2008)

This product I have not used yet. But I was going to order it and when I seen they wanted 30 dollars for shipping I canceled my order.
Right there that tells me this is a scam they say you get the second one free only pay S&H but shipping and handling for that second one cost more than buying the first one by it self.
So to me these smooth away people are a joke and in the business as con artist and will not receive any money from my pocket. (12/08/2008)

The Smooth Away sounded really good, but after reading all this feedback, I'll stick with using a pumice stone. Just start with warm water and soap then gently rub with the pumice stone. Be careful not to rub too hard because it could rub the skin off as well. It really takes the hair off, but like anything that works well, it has its risks. (12/08/2008)

You could try Baby Touch Mitts probably available at the drugstore. I just use a razor anyplace I need it. Even face. Ever notice how guys usually have fewer wrinkles than women? They shave and constantly remove dead skin cells. I am blonde and any extra hair I have is light and very fine, so I don't know if a razor would work for everybody. (12/09/2008)
I need to get the word out: What a waste of money. These probably didn't even remove one single hair from my body and it gave me a terrible rash under my arm. I cannot warn you enough NOT to buy this product! I waited for it for about 2 months, and what a disappointment.
I then bought myself an electric shaver (for the same amount I might add) which works wonders. I hope whoever sells these get the same rash as I did somewhere else and can then know how it feels! And hopefully then start feeling ashamed for robbing people basically! I feel this strongly about this utterly useless product. Oh, it actually looks cute! That doesn't help me at all though! I just finished using this product. It takes much longer than shaving, and is more frustrating. If you don't do it hard enough it won't remove hair, and if you do it too hard it actually hurts and irritates skin. Save yourself time and money, don't buy it! (12/11/2008)

Had almost exactly the same experience as Sandy (12/3), except I had no idea in advance that the shipping charges for a $14.99 purchase would be $27.96! Also they double billed me for the product, and I, like others, could also never reach a live person in their "customer service". The whole thing was a total fiasco, and they should be investigated for the way they do business with the consumer, IMHO. DON"T buy it! (12/11/2008)

I love this product, because its convenient and it really does work. As a mother of a young teen, i was hesitant to have her begin shaving like her friends, so this is a great alternative. I don't usuallly buy products off tv but it ended up working out just fine. I didn't get a ridiculous charge on my bill and it arrived in the appropriate time. After trying it, I liked it, no complaints, but I would probably alternate between smooth away and shaving throughout the week (12/18/2008)

I just "finally" received the product (months). I haven't fully tried it, BUT, I tested few sections on my legs that has slight stubble. It seems smooth. It takes a little more effort than shaving, BUT, I'd like to see how long it lasts. So I've heard, when you shave you get thicker hair (i have been shaving for years). Maybe this can control that. I have very sensitive skin, I used the lotion, I hope I don't get any irritation. So far so good. I'll keep you updated. (12/18/2008)

I may look into taking legal action against them as I have taken pictures of my leg. (12/19/2008)

Complete SCAM! They say it was only 9.99 and so on so forth with buy one get one free...NOT SO! I received my order 72 days after it was placed and the charges ended up being 67.96 for a P.O.S that does not work. It is just super fine grain sand paper that leaves you skin extremely irritated and burning with just as much hair as you had before you began this abuse. I can not wait for a class action law suit, they will be given what those scammers deserve. (12/20/2008)

I used to work for Guthy-Renker, known for selling junk like this product. I guess I should have known better being that I used to sell rip-off products just like this! A lot of these "wonderful" reviews here could be people contracted by the company to put positive feedback on blogs and rating websites on the internet. It is common practice with many companies like these, you can really tell when the review sounds exactly like what the infomercial said to the T.
I can tell you that its another junk made in China product, made cheap and overpriced on shipping. Even if every person sends the product back, they will made exorbitant profits on the non-refundable shipping charges. You can follow the instructions to the letter and most likely, you will still end up will a nice dry, irritated rash on your skin. It is essentially rubbing sand paper against your skin, which common sense would tell anyone is much worse than shaving or even a depilatory. I would never recommend this to anyone with sensitive skin or skin allergies, you will be in for a whole world of hurt. Save your money - you could buy a lot more disposable razors for the $30 shipping you will pay for a piece of plastic with sandpaper tacked to it! (12/21/2008)

Almost fooled into buying this product....but after these reviews NO WAY! Thanks for the great feedback.

Hey people. This product does not work. This is simply foolish to use sand paper for your skin. It cost them $750 million, and one piece works fine for 3 months. Just $2 catridges. Gillette introduced in 1998 after more than $750 million in research and development costs. The three blade design is marketed by Gillette as allowing for a shave with less pressure to the skin and with fewer strokes, thereby reducing skin irritation. (12/21/2008)

I purchased mine at our State Fair back in Oct. Had I not tested it out on site, I wouldn't have bought it. A few things to note: 1) yes it works, 2) it does take a bit of extra time, 3) if you want to save yourself the funds, purchase a sheet of 3000 grit sandpaper, because this is exactly what this product is. This product works but only if it's used *properly*: in clockwise/counterclockwise circular motions, make sure you do NOT have on lotion or cream, and don't apply too much pressure! This is an excellent exfolliant, but after all, it is only sandpaper! I've saved money by not having to purchase razors. If you have a few extra minutes, I recommend it. (12/22/2008)

Don't order from the internet. They don't even give u a total, as soon as you enter your info it says that your order has beeb placed. I tried to cancel on the internet and they emailed me back saying that they don't handle that. I need to call this other number and it seems like they already charged my card. They r only open from 8 to 5 so I need to wait till tomorrow and I'm sure they are going to say that its too late to cancel. I'm just really mad that they don't even give u an amount so you know what you are going to end up paying. (12/22/2008)

I bought mine at Walgreens and I tried it out yesterday on my arms, upper lip and bikini area and I had no problems with it. You really do have to follow the instructions with the clockwise, counter-clockwise motions. I did feel it a little irritated on my lip, but its also sensitive there. The instructions and warnings say to put a cotton ball in milk and put it on. It helps relieve it.
I really have no complaints and it was only $10. Might as well try it. (12/23/2008)

When a product costs as much in shipping as the product itself is, you have got to know it's a scam. They KNOW people will return it because it sucks but they won't lose out on any money because of the shipping.
I didn't buy the product. I like many people, was tempted. I'm glad I decided to look up reviews though. I'm sorry you all had to go through that, but it's extremely helpful so I thank you all for that.
I, like most people, shall just continue to use razors. By the way, I liked Bob's response. (12/23/2008)

guess it works...if you work long enough at it. sure not as easy as shown on tv! that man removing thick chest hair in one swipe, is a joke! i only tried it on the backs of my hands, which had light, fine hair. took forever..
also...shipping cost was not given to me before the order was placed...and, it the most i have ever paid! paid over $60 for product...half of which was shipping. the only reason i have for keeping it, is that i know they don't refund shipping costs, and i'd have to pay to ship it back..
save your money til it's available at walmart. (12/23/2008)

I used a product similar a long time ago. It is the same concept, sand paper, it basically works to remove hair but it also leaves your skin dry. You are literally sanding away the hair, and stubble the next day due to the fact that you have sanded away the hair on top of the skin. Try it from a walk in store, not through the internet or t.v., that way you don't waste as much money if you are not satisfied. (12/23/2008)

Read some reviews about this product and decided after I had ordered not to buy it. Thought I had canceled it but it came anyway. Every time I tried to cancel it they told me they would get right on it. They never once told me it had already shipped. I tried to get a cancellation conformation from them and got the same answering machine that said they couldn't take my call. Everyone who has been scammed by these guy needs to go to the Better Business Bureau web site and file a complaint here is the Link: https://odr.bbb.org/odrweb/public/GetStarted.aspx. this is nothing more than a scam to get money out of you from higher than necessary shipping and handling charges. I do not like this product. I tried it on my legs last night and ended up with horrible burns all up and down them, and I was even following the directions. My legs already have stubble on them and it's worse than razor burn. I do not recommend this product. (12/24/2008)

Thanks for the reviews. I was tempted to purchase the product based on the advertisements and Whoopi Goldberg's endorsement, but I trust the many responses on this board. My skin is especially sensitive because of third degree burn scarring on my chest, back and underarm, so I thought "the pads" would be a great product for me. I'm going to pass on this product. (12/26/2008)
By BrandyAprons
I bought this product hoping that it would save me the pain of daily shaving. I would say that my skin is slightly more sensitive than average. Razor burn happens maybe one out of 5 times I shave. I used this product this evening, it took me almost two hours to complete both legs, and even though I covered every inch of my legs, about a third of the hair remained. About a half hour later, a rash appeared on my first leg, covering the entire leg, it is maybe six times the pain size of an average razor burn. In fact, it is more akin to a poison oak rash. (12/27/2008)

I asked my mom to get me this for Christmas and so she went to walgreens and got it for about $9.99 or $10 whatever. it was so bad me and my sisters when using it on our legs and it does not work lol! I know this is not funny but I just laugh because I thought I was gonna have smooth legs and did not have to wax or use nair :l
Now I am just going to stick to nair because smooth away sucks! We were rubbing it on our legs in circular motions for about 10 minutes and it only got like 3 inches shaved down not even "Removed" like at all! Don't but it please save your money & time. Rubbing your legs with a bootleg sand paper? I hate smooth away and the people that made it and sold it.

My daughter started to ask about shaving. I saw this in the walgreens in the beauty section so I bought it for her as a Christmas gift. She loves it so now I dont have to worry about her cutting herself with razors. I highly recommend to mothers who want another option besides shaving and waxing. I mean its only 10 bucks its worth a shot (12/29/2008)

Am I crazy? Because I love it! A year ago I bought something similar, basically the same idea but with a mitt. I didn't really like it, but I liked the fact that it was an alternative to shaving. So then smooth away came out, gave it a whirl and it's so much better than what I had bought a year ago. So personally I love it- Sorry no bad review here. (12/29/2008)

Just bought it, and it works like a charm. I cant believe the bad reviews on here. My arms and legs are totally smooth right now- WORKED AWESOME! Try it for yourself, that's what I say- IT WORKS! I seriously didn't believe it would work but I could see the hair falling off- seriously! TRY IT. (12/29/2008)
By not a review writer normally, but...
It's really not like rubbing abrasive sandpaper on your skin at all. The surface of the pad is really smooth. I used it on my arms first, and it worked really well, and didn't take too long. However, it did take a while to finish my legs. I mean, I like it, it works. I probably wont throw away my razors but its definitely a good thing to have around to use when you dont feel like shaving all the time (12/30/2008)

I saw this on The View a while ago and Whoopi Goldberg uses it and loves it. And when they tested it out on stage they were all very impressed. How bad can it be? (12/30/2008)

Just an idea--I frequently buy things online and after a major billing fiasco(the Gunthy Renker/Chaz Dean conditioner), I purchased a Visa GreenDot card--it's a debit card that you preload. I only put enough cash on it to cover my purchase; that way if someone tries to sneak extra fees in, the charge is denied and I'm saved the hassle of dealing with nonexistent customer service. I think I pay $5.95/a month maintenance fee on the card, but it's worth it.
Also, Visa/Mastercard gift cards work well. I buy mine from my bank, but I've seen them in Walgreen's, which is where I bought the GreenDot card. (12/30/2008)

By judith
It sucks. I was so excited to get it, then I tried it yesterday and again today and it's not worth the force and effort. Shaving is better, it's quicker and more efficient. It really bothered me how it took longer to buff away the hair. Then I found strangler hair and have to buff more on one concentrated area. Very lame. I canceled and further shipments of the product, it was a waste of money. (01/01/2009)

I feel sorry for the people who have ordered this product. I was thinking about it at first, but now I'm certain I will not buy it. Got a couple of laughs too, but any person with common sense would research a product before buying off the internet, television, or catalog. Consumer Reports is a good way to tell if products are good, or feedback's like these. I know for a fact people are hired to write reviews for these kind of products. BEWARE OF SCAMS! Don't be a fool. Things now a days are in fact, too good to be true! Hope everyone has a Happy New Year! (01/01/2009)

You can get smooth away at Walgreens, Bed Bath and Beyond, and other places around where you live for no more than $10 so don't fall for the expensive shipping scam. That being said: I have blonde and light brown body hair. I am happy with the results on facial hair! Was actually shocked!
Used brisk tiny circular motion very light pressure opposite direction of growth - the fine, light "female mustache" hairs and between the eyebrows fuzz were gone in 30 seconds with NO pain. It still looks like you've had a wax though (give yourself an hour or two for the redness to go down or more if you are sensitive).
On legs however; it takes some serious time - and following the directions on one leg i have a rash similar to the razor burn mentioned on other comments. =( Determined to get good results - Did the other leg with water (no soap or lotion, just keep dipping the pad into clean cool water) and there was less irritation but still a little bit might have used too much pressure. Used broad circular motion, light to medium pressure and make sure to keep adding water. Saw skin exfoliate right off with the hairs.
Makes sense because I have used WET extra fine sandpaper to polish sandstone sculptures before. Its a pretty intense exfoliation so I WON'T be using this all the time but I would say it's good for the occasional deep exfoliation and def. as needed for facial hair! Will still wax and pluck to shape eyebrows but will conquer the rest of the face with smooth away!
So a mixed review - and the jurys still out on the regrowth. Hoping its softer than shaving stubble. Prolly just as fast though, with surface removal - hair is still going to grow the same way it always did. sigh* o well.
Might even be able to just try the finest grit sandpaper with sticky back for replacement when these run out instead of ordering or locating more pads?

I bought this and it came yesterday. I used it and it works! I love this! It is NOT abrasive at all, but rather a very smooth feel it it. You use it by going in circular motions, not up and down or in a straight line. It removes the hair quickly and without a lot of hassle. It doesn't leave a rash, it's not painful, no cuts, no burns, no chemicals. I was honestly afraid to spend the money on it, figured it wouldn't work. I was so wrong! It works. I recommend it to anyone who is tired of razors, chemicals, waxing, etc. this works! And check out ebay for brand new boxes selling less than the main site sells for. That's where I am getting my refills, saves money! (01/03/2009)

How long does it last? Does your hair grow faster?
(01/03/2009)
By Sally
My niece got it for Christmas and she loved it. She showed me her arms and they felt great. I saw it for $10 and thought "why not?" I used it on my legs and it took about 5 minutes and my legs felt great. My facial hair was a breeze but my bikini line was kind of difficult and it was sore. I put lotion on my legs after wards and that felt like fire. No rash or irritation, it just burned. So I washed it off.
I think some people have a harder time because they might have courser hair, while I have very fine hair. I also shaved just 3 days ago, so I wasn't super hairy. I tried it on my husbands 2 day stubble and it didn't budge it.
I'm not an impulse buying person, I don't do gadgets and silly toys, but I was happy with this one based just on what my niece told me. I think tossing the idea out because some people don't like it or buying it because some people like it is a bit narrow minded. We're not cookie cutouts of each other, we're all different, with different needs, different body types, and different DNA. Make your own choices... (01/03/2009)

I bought Smoothaway from Bed, Bath & Beyond. $9.99 (i)(buy it in a STORE so the infomercial companies cannot rip you off!)(/i) & It does work, but it takes a lot longer than shaving, so it's a waste of time for that. HOWEVER, what I do is I use the smooth away on my knees and elbows & then shave my legs, because I like how my smooth the skin on my knees feels after using it. GREAT for exfoliating. But for legs I recommend just shaving them; 5 minutes in the shower tops, and you're done, so why fight it?
It's also good for facial hair if you have very fine light hair. Not sure if it's as good on courser facial hair. If you use on your face, make sure you do not overdo it or you will end up with rug burn, just gentle circles 3x one direction & 3x in the other like the directions say. IF you need to do it more than once, I would recommend waiting until the next day. Do a gentle once over at night before bed, then wash and moisturize; then do the same thing the next night.
After that you can probably get away with just a quick once over 1x a week. I LOVE the way my face looks and feels after I use it and then wash and moisturize. Skin looks and feels smoother. So I will continue to buy the refills, but like I said before if you want it for your legs then don't even bother. 1/2 hour minimum to do both, so it's faster to shave. Just my opinion. (01/03/2009)

Oh my goodness, please listen to me. Everybody who doesn't like this product is crazy! It works like a charm! My legs and armpits (awkward word! haha) were so ridiculously soft like omg. razors work good but you can't tell in the shower if you missed a spot. This is so easy and lasts for me for like 3 days and my leg hairs grow FAST!
So please take into consideration that everybody is different and this could really work for you! Just don't order it online because that's the biggest waste of money. (01/03/2009)

I bought this product after seeing the commericals. I bought it at a CVS for $9.99. I used it in my bikini area and it did not work. I rarely purchase "as seen on tv" products because they usually dont work and this product just reaffirmed my thinking.

I just bought it today at Walgreens. I have red hair, and my unwanted hair is sparse & fine. I tried it on my upper lip first. It worked! I will say that it took me a few tries to get it down, but once I did, it was perfect. A word of advice: don't go in clockwise circles across the area, then come back across counter-clockwise. That doesn't work. Do one spot at a time, clockwise, then counter. This works perfectly.
Learn from my mistake, and don't irritate your skin. I tried it on my legs next (having learned my lesson) and it worked there, too. I shaved my legs just a day ago, but there was some stubble. I'm very pleased with this product, as I can do my legs while checking email, watching tv, etc. (It seems to vaporize hair. There is a little dust left on the skin, but no hairs anywhere!) I am really impressed. (01/04/2009)
By Amy
I just got mine and first let me say that yes, it does seem to work on course hair. Soft ones, not so much and yes, my skin is super soft now, HOWEVER, that is because it's taking off the first layer of skin and scratching the hell out of the new layer. My skin is red and when I went to put lotion on afterward, it burned, and I used a good quality night cream. Man it stings and in one place where I think I went over it too many times, the skin is swollen.
Going back to shaving as soon as my skin heals! Good luck to the rest of you. (01/04/2009)

My family is middle eastern, and we have dark thick body hair. My aunt tried smooth away and said it worked, so I bought it at the As Seen On TV store for twelve bucks. It worked really well on my arms- the hair is growing back very slowly and definitely looks finer.
When I did it on my upper lip it worked, but stung afterward and the skin was hard and scab-like for a few days, but that went away and the hair grew back slowly. It definitely doesn't work well for underarms- I gave up after rubbing for ten minutes with no hair removal. As for legs, I would expect it to take a long time.
I'm going to stick with shaving my legs and pits, but definitely keep using smooth away for my arms and facial hair. It doesn't work as terribly as people are saying, and if you buy it in an actual store then it's pretty cheap, considering you pay $12 bucks for one package that will last for probably as long as a pack of razor heads. (01/04/2009)

I bought Smooth Away at Sally's Beauty Supply (Texas) for $9.99 - cheap enough that it wouldn't be a great loss if it didn't work. SMOOTH AWAY **DID NOT** work for me. Ladies, don't throw out your razors, you'll still need 'em! (01/04/2009)

Tested it at the LA Fair this year and maybe because it was a hot day and the sun was hitting my arms but I broke out into welt like rash that burned. For three days I felt like I had a burn mark. (01/05/2009)

I am the one who originally asked this question and I finally broke down and bought it at Walgreens for $10. It worked on my arms and my hands really well, but will not work on my face for some reason. It didn't hurt except on my face a little, also no rash. I think it just depends on the persons hair and their sensitivity level, it seems to work for some and not for others. I probally will buy replacement pads because it did work wonderfully on my arms and hands and I loved the way my skin felt afterwards. Also, this was about 3 days ago and still no stubble! I think if you can find it for $10 somewhere you should give a it a go, just be careful and followful the directions carefully and just try a small trial area first so if you do get a rash it won't be so bad. Thanks for everyone's comments. (01/05/2009)

Are there any guys out there that use it? How does it work on men? (01/05/2009)
By Eddie
I bought this on Ebay, got a really good deal, came with 30 refill pads. I have very long hair on my arms and so as soon as I opened it I tried it on a small area on my arm and couldn't believe how the hair just disappeared, so I kept going and in less than 10 minutes all the hair on my arm was gone. If you rub too hard you will get like a razor type burn, just rub gently with small amount of pressure. Be very gentle on your face and upper lip.
I was so excited I grabbed my husbands hand and removed some hair from his knuckles just to see if it would work on him too, and it did. I ended up doing both arms and then sat watching TV and did both my legs in about 15 minutes and they are so so smooth, it will be interesting to see how quickly and course the hair grows back. It does with shaving anyway, and this has left my legs and arms feeling softer than ever. Haven't tried it on my underarms or bikini area yet, but I WILL! I love it, but definitely don't buy it from the TV ads, they charge way too much shipping. (01/05/2009)

I got this Smooth Away for Christmas and my mom made me touch her upper lip to feel how smooth it was. It definitely works but as far as i can tell the hair comes back equally as fast and exactly the same as shaving. And I'm not sure that it's faster or easier than shaving. I mean you have to go over each spot (GENTLY) in clockwise direction and then back again where as with shaving you just go over an area once. But if I had hair on my lips or anywhere I wouldn't want to shave - I would say it would probably be useful.
I did mess up the first time and used it on wet legs (didn't read instructions well enough) and I ended up with rashes on both legs for a few days! My only complaint is that the case that it comes in REEKS (as in stinks terribly) like it's made of gasoline or something and even now 2 weeks later I can smell it in my bathroom. Who knows what it's made of (made in China). Hope that's useful information.

I ordered smooth away from getsmoothaway.com and it didn't tell me how much the shipping would be. I then got an email confirming my order for $14.99 with a $13 shipping and handling fee and a 4-6 weeks wait. I immediately called to cancel but nobody answered. In the mean time, I found out that my credit card was charged for over $80. I finally reached someone at smooth away and canceled my order. They said that I would receive an email confirming the cancellation. Today, I got an email saying that my order has been shipped. I have called all day and no one answers. I am so mad and frustrated. I recently purchase smooth away at my local walgreen for $9.99, and the first time I used it, it was great and left my skin smooth. I would recommend this product to anyone but to be use if you are on vaction, and do not want to bring all the shaving product that you usally use at home. I like this product alot. I took it with me on my cruise and, used it when I needed it the most. I waited to buy it when it was in stores instead of on the TV just in case I did not like it and would not be mad I paid all that money on plus shipping. (01/08/2009)

On impulse I ordered this product as soon as i seen it on TV, it was a machine that I ordered it from, that should have been my first clue. I ordered this product and told them my shipping info and spelt it like they asked. I get an email saying it has been shipped. 3 weeks later still no product, and I find out my account has been charged $60. When I pull up the email and tracking number, they sent the product to a different town and it got shipped back to the company, and I have no way of contacting them to complain. Don't waste your money. (01/09/2009)

I finally caved and bought a Smooth Away system. The price was listed as $14.98 for the system and $19.98 for refill pads. Within a couple of days, there was a charge of more than $60. on my credit card. After reading numerous reviews, I know what a scam this company is. I dread the battle and frustration ahead of trying to get a refund and cancellation of further orders.
Bottom line: DO NOT order from this company. They are scammers and will steal your hard earned money. (01/09/2009)

I don't know what all of these negative reviews are. I've been using this product since last summer and haven't had any problems.
I have very course hair that grows very quickly, and this product has seemed to decrease both of these issues greatly. I don't have nicks from shaving or razor burn. When I began using it, my boyfriend noted how soft my skin was, which really surprised me because I was a bit skeptical after the first use.
I use it every three days or so. It doesn't work as well on armpits (for me at least). There seems to be a lot of curves that the pad can't really form to as well as a razor can.
But as for legs and bikini line and whatever else is hairy that I feel like getting rid of- it works really well. I can compare it to the way my legs felt way before I started shaving- soft skin and if there is any hair left behind, it's very, very fine. Not a problem for me.
Maybe a lot of these other reviews are being written by people who haven't shaved in years? You should really try reading the directions and going along with the no-longer-than-1/4" hair suggestion.

Ya know, I was seriously tempted to buy this product but something said check for reviews online first and BOY am I glad I did! Half way through this page and I am SO NOT going to buy this piece of crap! I'll stick to my Venus razor thanks!

Bought the "as seen on tv" product from Bed Bath & Beyond thinking it might give a better facial shave for guys (dumb idea turns out, "not for use on the male beard" per the instructions) - but tried it on my chest like I've seen on the commercial and didn't remove a single hair...went straight to the garbage can, another addition to the waste of the world. I bought this product at Walgreens because I saw it on the informericial. EVERYONE - save your $. It does not work. Maybe 2 hairs came off my arm after I followed the directions. I wish I had used the $10 at Starbucks. (01/10/2009)

I really like it. I have been blessed(?) with a face full of light peach fuzz. I swear when I wore black turtlenecks I looked like a bunny. Tried waxing; left me with redness and welts. Tried the Rx Vaniqua; gave me cystic acne and an epilator hurt like crazy. Having nothing to lose, I bought the Smooth Away at Sally's for $10. The trick is to be very gentle. You're not trying to sand down a table here. I use it once a week on my face and I swear my skin looks better with no peach fuzz.
I use a very gentle non-perfumed moisturizer (Cetaphil) afterwords Works good on the legs but does take some time. Ladies with KP; this does keep those bumps and ingrown hairs away. Have not tried on the armpit area as I shave them daily and can't bring myself to let them go for more than 2 days. Well worth the money for me. (01/11/2009)

I should have read these reviews before purchasing this product from TV! I have heard it worked so I thought I would try it. I haven't received the product yet so who knows if all the horror stories of wrong address issues will be posted by me at a later date; however, I wanted to let everyone know that I ordered it for the $14.99 + $6.99 shipping and my card was charged for a much higher amount. I have learned my lesson on reading reviews and ordering things from TV. (01/11/2009)

This company is a rip off! They ripped off my elderly grandmother. they charged her $32.00 for shipping and handling. The company response was to have her send everything back for a full refund, but they failed to tell you they only refund the purchase of the product and not the shipping and handling. (01/12/2009)

I'm so happy I read all these reviews. Honestly I was about to go buy it at walgreens or something. I was so excited to see they had something better than shaving but I guess not. I hate scams! And what's this about 900$ for this piece of junk? I guess its back to waxing and shaving. (01/12/2009)
By Sarah
I wonder about some of the positive reviews. Could they be written by the same person? Odd that more than one talks about "course" hair. It's spelled COARSE, meaning thick or strong... Makes me wonder, as someone else mentioned, whether they are professonally written. Nonetheless, it may be worth the $10 to try it out. (01/12/2009)

After reading all the negative feedback, I decided to buy "Braun Silk-epil Xpressive" electric epilator. The best $80 I have ever spent.
P.S. "Waterproof Sandpaper 240" does the same thing as SMOOTH AWAY. (01/13/2009)

I placed an order on getsmoothaway.com, but felt trapped right after I saw I paid around $40 shipping fee for just 2 pounds of products. The trick was that I couldn't see how much I would be charged for the shipping fee until pressing the 'place the order' button. So I canceled the order right away by both submitting the order canceling form on-line and calling the customer service.
However, I still received the order a few days later, even though the customer service representative I called told me that he had canceled the order for me so that I would not be troubled. Then I had to mail the item back at my own cost, even though the whole thing is all their fault.
I even didn't ask for a free returning. However, sadly, I received the mail from American Express informing me that this 'Smooth Away" merchant only refunded me $57.29 instead of the whole amount of $97.23. The merchant still charged me $39.94 for shipping and handling fee! Do I need to pay that much money for their mistake?
Or does the merchant make the money from nothing? I feel extremely trapped by this merchant -- it is a rip-off! I don't know whether I can get all money back. (01/14/2009)

I find it really funny that so many people seem to think hey it's only $10.00 bucks, it seems so easy to just throw it away that I will gladly give you my email and you can send it to me and no worries about over billing or is it going to work, just let me know when you get that itch or burning sensation in your pocket. Thank You. LG
P.S. I can also accept paypal and the best part I won't even charge S&H. and you'll be ahead $$. (01/14/2009)

OK I am a idiot. I ordered this smooth away thing a couple days ago from the buy it now option on ebay. i have not got it yet. I wondered for a long time if it would work. Havnt known anyone yet thats tried it. So bought it myself then ding the light go's off "REVIEW IT" So im on here and there mixed feelings on it. Now im confused. and a little scarred to use the darn thing. lol soooo anyway I should have it soon and will try to find this site again to say what i thought of it. I promise to read all directions and use as directed. WISH ME LUCK! (01/14/2009)

It's junk! I was stupid enough to order 2 sets. They charged me $27.95 for shipping, when I sent them back, I paid only $7.95 for postage! It's been 6 weeks and still no refund! (01/14/2009)
By Janet
Well, I just tried it yesterday (after buying for $10 at Bed Bath and Beyond) it didn't work so good. Probably would have done better if I had another 4 hours to work at it lol (you can only go 3 times clockwise and 3 times counterclockwise over and over until hair is gone) though it was painless during the process, afterwords I felt like I rolled around in fiberglass! I have lots of dark hair, thanks to my greek roots and I am completely overwhelmed by shaving all the time. My best friend bought it and insisted it worked but then again she has light blonde hair. So I decided to use her smooth away on my arm to try it out and it really did take the hair off, i dont know how exactly but it did. I had no irritation, I made sure to read the instructions carefully. It does take a little bit more time, but I definitely prefer using the smooth away on my arms instead of shaving them. (01/14/2009)

I bought mine at Walgreen's for 10.00 and I think its worth it. I used it for bikini line and chin hairs. It does take a few minutes to finish a large area, but it feels VERY smooth afterward. I am just trying to figure out how it does it? I didn't see any hair on the floor or anything.. where did it go? (01/15/2009)

I am so confused on what to do about this product! I really wanted to buy it so I could get rid of the hair on my arms. I didn't wanna shave my arms because I thought that would be weird, so I thought this would be a simple alternative, but now after reading everything everyone wrote I'm at a loss.
It is true that products DO NOT work for everyone, especially if you have sensitive skin, that's a given. Also, I'm sure there are MANY people out there who simply just do not read the directions carefully or correctly. I think I'm gonna give it a try to see how it works for me, everyone's skin is different. (01/15/2009)

I tried the Smooth Away $10.00 at CVS and for the most part it works. I only tried it on my legs to test it out. If anyone is wondering 'how it works' I think it is basically like a file of your nails but except for your hair. I think they used the same principle as an emery board that files your nails. Your skin my be a little dry, it does warn you, but I used Cocoa Butter afterwards and my skin was fine. I have fairly sensitive skin too, Irish skin, very white lol, I was skeptic at first, but I find it to work just fine. (01/15/2009)

Well. I wanted to try it but after reading the reviews of people getting ripped off, i don't even want to put up the $10 to try it because I know this money will be going to a corrupt place. People do not deserve to be lied to let alone robbed. Buying this product that probably costs them less than a dollar to make only adds fuel to their flame. Consumers need to become more conscious of the repercussions of their actions. Putting money in greedy hands is never a good idea. I will never consider this product again. (01/16/2009)

I wouldn't order it from tv, I got mine at bed bath and beyond for $10 and love it! It keeps my skin so smooth and gets the dead skin off. It was so worth the money! You'll never use razors again. (01/16/2009)

I bought this on TV for about $10.00. Then, at the end, it was $50.00. It was a waste of money.
It worked abit at first, but then it just stopped working. It didn't remove any hairs. My skin went all bumpy, and it was itchy afterwards! I was following all the directions!
I just think about it, and I get annoyed.
Here's some advice: Save your money and DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM. Then again, it might depend on the hair, skin, and sensetivity.

I read the reviews and did not order online as everyone talked about how they got scammed on the shipping. I did go to Walgreens and purchase for $10 and I have to say I am happy with the results. I have darker, coarser hair and it seemed to 'smooth' it away. I did use it on legs that only had 2 days of growth so the hair was kinda stubbly and not long. I also tried it on my daughters arms (she shaves them) and it worked on that area as well. I think it actually helped with not only removing the hair but slightly exfoliating the skin as I have SUPER dry skin and it seemed to feel less itchy after I applied lotion. I think it is worth trying for the $10 IF you go to the store and purchase and do not order online. (01/16/2009)

Quan ZHou - DISPUTE it with your credit card company! Since they said the order was cancelled, and they screwed up and sent it anyway, you are not responsible for their error. Good Luck! ~ Suzi :) (01/17/2009)

I bought a Smooth Away from Sally's, and wasn't too impressed with it. Its okay for the arms, but it didn't give my legs that smooth shave feel, and although no stubble was visible, I could feel it.
Also, I DO NO recommend using it on the pubic region. I do, and my skin got very irritated, and red without really removing any hair, and I usually shave so the hair was very short.
Plus in softer areas, such as inner thighs, it doesn't seem to work as well. I guess it makes sense, considering that it seems to just be sandpaper. (01/17/2009)
By Kristen
For everybody that has been ripped off by this company, you should report them to the Better Business Bureau. Its really scary that Smooth Away can just take out whatever amount of money they feel like from a person's bank account or credit card. Good luck! (01/17/2009)

I bought smooth away a couple weeks ago. I was not happy with it. First of all it took way longer than shaving and it didn't work as well. Second the pads didn't last very long. You get one leg done and if you kepp the same pad on it takes about 20 minutes. I would recomend just sticking to shaving. Smooth Away is NOT WORTH IT.(b)(/b) (01/18/2009)
By Traci
I picked this up at a CVS over the weekend and I must say I'm definitely not happy at all with the results. Not a single hair was removed from my face, and my legs took a good 20 minutes EACH for this stupid thing. Better off with a razor. (01/18/2009)

I just LOOKED at this product on one of those "as seen on TV" websites. I haven't ordered it yet. Seems to me that there are mixed reviews here. Some people say they liked it while most say it didn't work well. But then I see a lot of people that paid around $50 for it and one person said they paid $100 after shipping & handling? If you paid more than $10 for shipping & handling for this product then you must not have had it shipped in the United States. Or maybe the merchant that you ordered it from is in a foreign country because the site I'm looking at says in plain English that shipping & handling is $6.99 in U.S. Dollars. (01/19/2009)

It doesn't work at all. Do not buy this product. I intend to report them to the Better Business Bureau. (01/19/2009)

I too bought my Smooth Away at Walgreens for $10 and I think it works great. I find it works better on my legs than my lip. Another tip: you need to use it like every day or every other day and don't let the hair get long. Although I feel a little bit of stubble I don't see it. It is fast--I use alot of pressure and use circular motions--clockwise and then the opposite--and I HATE shaving. Totally worth 10 bucks--the hair is gone and I don't mind the 5-6 minutes a day. I quit buying anything on TV--the "extra set" is never worth that horrendous shipping charge. (01/19/2009)
By Colleen
This product is the worst ever! I bought it at Walgreens, and I used it the same day on my upper lip. It took me about 10 minutes to remove all the hair, but I spent the whole night with a wet towel on my upper lip! It burned for the next 2 days! Do not buy this product! (01/19/2009)
By Someone
I bought this last night at Walgreen's and it worked great for me on my legs.
Could it be the folks having trouble have coarse hair? I have light, fine hair and I absolutely love the thing. I don't have hair on my face though, so I can't offer an opinion there. But for legs, it seems to work really well. (01/20/2009)
By Kathy
Thanks for the warnings of the smooth away system, as knowing my luck I too would of ordered it without checking the reviews, but I am glad I did, and I won't be buying this product and I will tell my family and friends about it. Thanks again (01/20/2009)

So I bought it bed bath beyond for like ten dollars. I thought it was worth it. I used it on my legs and it did feel smoother but by the next day it grew just a little like kinda stubbly and I tried my underarms and it burned like how you shave with out cream it was irritated for almost a week. I used it for my upper lip and it did work, I was satisfied. I tried my bikini and it was difficult to use. So I suggest for upper lip stick to waxing same with underarm. It's great for legs, even though it grows out quick. and bikini stick to waxing or shaving entirely up to you. (01/20/2009)

I just bought this at Wal-greens for $9.99. I never buy "as seen on tv" items, but I was compelled to buy this for whatever reason.
It worked very well for me. The skin on my legs is very smooth and it removed the hair like it stated it would. I haven't tried it on my arms or bikini area yet, but plan to soon.
I would say that if you hate shaving, this is a nice-to-have. Otherwise, spend the $10 on a Venus razor with refills! (01/20/2009)

I recently bought this product at Sally's for 10 bux. I didn't experience any discomfort. It was easy to use, even on the inner thigh area and quickly removed the hair. However, eight hours later when I got up the next morning, i could feel stubble again. You can only use it on very short stubble and the smooth results just don't last long enough for me. I am going to see if I can return it. Hope this helps. Linda (01/20/2009)

I order the thing over the phone, after seeing one of those commercials that said buy one get one free. I thought the cost was 14.99 plus 6.99 s&h, the call was all automated and I was never given a order number or amount. When I checked my account a few days later I had been charged $60.00. I called customer service to cancel. I was told to refuse the package when it arrived and then I would be refunded the full amount. I did refuse the package, two weeks ago and no credit has been placed on my account. Now when I try to call the cutomer service # I get a recording telling me that due to the high demand all representatives are busy, try my call later in the week this call will end. And it did. I am sure this is going to get ugly before I can get my money back, I too am going to report them to the better business. (01/21/2009)

I ordered the SmoothAway on their official website and just received it. It took a while to come in the mail but besides that, I think it works great and it's very inexpensive. I do agree that it is just some sand paper and plastic but it's the best sand paper I ever used! lol I don't think there is any need to report these people to the BBB or sue them, you may just have very coarse hair or could be rubbing too hard or have sensitive skin. I am surprised this product did not bother me because I do have sensitive skin. Btw, I do not work for this company either, I work for a large construction company in MA, just in case anyone reads this and thinks my message is a joke. (01/21/2009)

I tried it today;bought it from CVS. I havent shaved believe it or not since winter and I have soft hair on my legs, and it worked fine on my skin. I purchased Smooth Away a few days ago from Target and tried it on my arms. It worked well, but I did get a little irritation. I did it on Monday and now I've got very small scabs on some of my hair cuticles. Nothing to scream about, I probably rubbed a little too hard. I did use it on my upper lip and I removed most of the hair. The person that said they were irritated, the box says if you feel irritation wash with cool water then but a cotton ball soaked in milk over the spot for a few minutes. I didn't try that, I just let the irritation go away (it took about half a day...my arms were very sore). I do like it better than shaving and the hair has not grown back, not even a little bit since Monday. (01/22/2009)
By Kat
I like it. I got it at bed bath and beyond. It doesn't work that well on my legs - though I'm sure if I spent more time on it it would, I think it would take less time to razor it. I don't have hair on my face, but used a magnifying mirror to find some and used it on that to see how it did - and it took it all off! So I'm sure ladies with facial hair would love this. So then I used it on my cheeks next to the hairline where those fuzz hairs are and it took those off too.
But with legs/arms (didnt try bikini line) it's going to take more than 3 circles to the left and 3 to the right. I'd buy it again, especially if I had facial hair. I know a few people who I wish would use it. lol (01/22/2009)

I just bought this an hour ago at cvs, it was 9.99 and it took 20 mins for each leg, DOES NOT WORK on the bikini line. I think that the hair is too coarse. The smooth away on my legs gave me red bumps and soreness, I definatly think shaving is better, it takes less time.
I am going to try to bring it back to cvs, doesnt seem to work for me and I dont have coarse hair on my legs and its not bad on my bikini line at all. I just hate those red bumps I get there because I shave. If anyone has suggestions on what I can do to not have red bumps on my bikini line, I would apprecaite that. I tried the some gel but it doesnt work, it burns. (01/22/2009)

I order mine from ebay, paid only 12.99 free shipping. So far I only tried it on my arm. It worked. I will try it on my legs later, but so far I'm very happy how my arms look and feel. (01/24/2009)

I wish I would have purchased this from a store and not online. The extra pads sounded like a good deal at the time but in the end it was $60 to try a product that turned out mediocre at best.
In all fairness, I should keep using it but I hate the stubble feeling the next morning on my legs. Smooth away is nothing compared to a fresh shave, that is for sure. (01/25/2009)
By if it sounds too good...
Ashley, Try "Ingrown Gold" for those ingrown hairs -- I got it at my spa. It's not cheap (like $50 for a little jar) but it works great! (01/26/2009)

Tthis product sucks. no one at customer service has an address. The customer service rep was very nice but could not tell me where to return the 800 return number does not take calls. Stay away from this product. I'd rather cut myself shaving than deal with this scam company. (01/26/2009)

Can you say, "Ouch?" I purchased the kit on-line and tried it immediately on my underarms & lip. I had to look in the mirror to see if my lip was still there. Of course, my lip & the little hair was still there. Let's not even talk about my underarm. I thought I was going to have to drive with foot on the stearing wheel so I could stick my arms straight out, it was painful. Some hair was removed; most of it is remained. I'm giving myself some healing time before I use a razor. My opinion - IT DOES NOT WORK! (01/26/2009)

I just received my smooth away online and tried it last night after showering and my skin was all clean and dry. I liked it at first, it takes time to do both legs. I tried my underarms but only like one hair came off. It hurt under there and for like half of today. I think my underarm hair might be too coarse.
I immediately put baby oil on my legs after (I assumed it would moisturize better than lotion). Today however i have red bumps on my legs. I'm not sure if i was rubbing too hard or too much in the same spot. I followed the directions so idk. I like that I don't have to shave but well see how long the hair stays off.
If you wanna buy this I suggest trying it our from some one else just use a new pad. Oh and that's the other down fall. It took me 2 pads one on each leg. So I would imagine that u would have to spend $ on ordering refill pads. (01/27/2009)

I bought mine off ebay and had no problems with payment. The product itself seemed to work just fine on my leg and arms, granted my arm hairs are really fine and I didn't have that my leg hair when I used it. However it did work. I tried it on my upper lip and it took off the hair there too but 8 hours later and I still feel like the area was embedded in glass. I'm in major pain. and the bikini.....didn't really work. (01/28/2009)

I was thinking about trying this product, because I have thin but dark arm hair. But after reading the reviews, I dont want to test it out, because I have sensitive skin and I don't want my arms to be all stubbly. It seems to work better for people with light thin hair. So if it works for you, great. Oh and for the people who have experienced irritation, especially on your underarms/face, it could have something to do with exfoliation. Maybe that area of your skin isn't used to being exfoliated so much, so it irritates with this product. Try scrubbing the area well with a lufa or something before trying the product again. Hope this helps (01/29/2009)

As I read every single one feedback, I must say that I did order Smooth Away over the phone, today Jan 29,2009... And its true there isnt any customer service to help you take the order, and for some reason I did not recieve a comfirmation code. And so I ran to my bank, and reported the order to be refused. I went to Walgreens bought it for $10bucks. I have to say I did try it, followed instruction very well, and this thing is Fraud. It did not work on me AT ALL. So to anyone out there who said it did work, I am wondering how did it work on you? I have fine thin very little hair on my arms and legs, I took a whole shower, and didnt put any lotion, my skin felt dry, used this thing and it didnt work AT ALL. Im 23yrs old female, and I must say this thing is a FRAUD. Whew thank god i canceled that order. (01/29/2009)

My mom just bought smooth away for like 10.00 dollars. It does work, i tried it on my upper lip today and it took out most of the hairs and left it pretty smooth. I had SOME irritation but after like a half an hour it was gone. (I have pretty sensitive skin) You should give it a try and see how it reacts to your skin. I really does take hair out and exfoliates the skin. It is NOT a sandpaper it is much much smoother. Give it a shot! (01/29/2009)

I've tried the smooth away pads and was very disappointed. I don't have sensitive skin at all but when I used the small pad on my face it left my skin red, raw, and flaked. I know you are thinking "well, she used too much pressure", well, I didn't, I followed all directions cleaning and drying my skin before using the lightest pressure. I had to throw away the pad after a single use as well, it had nothing left after 1 three minute use. The large pads were equally as useless. They also left my legs raw and I had to throw the pad out after finishing just one calf. My advice: don't waste your money or time. (01/30/2009)

I do agree with a lot of the reviews to this smooth away product. I was very disappointing. In the commercial it makes it seem like its a magical eraser to make hairs go away on any sensitive spot on your face or legs, private parts wherever. It tells you to go counter clockwise, clockwise a few times and put pressure on it but not that much. When I did this i had no results.I got smooth skin, but when it came to actually removing the hairs.. NOTHING NO RESULTS.. I mean i tried it on different places even with the thin hair on my face it wouldn't even disappear. I would rather pluck my face with a tweezers than use this product very disappointing & it is a scam. I just think this was a complete waste of money. (01/31/2009)

Yes. First of all I ordered online, they never told me my complete order amount w/shipping. Well the shipping was as much as the product. The product was $14.99 with shipping it ended up being closer to $29.00. When it arrived I tried it and it did NOT work and ended up turning my skin. I called for a refund which they gladly did but did not refund the shipping. This is where they make their money. also they claim not sold in stores and I just saw it in Bed, Bath and Beyond. Do not Buy! (01/31/2009)

I just got it today! At Bed Bath & Beyond, it was 9.99 and since I've been wanting to try it I decided to get it. I really dislike my stomach's tiny hairs, so I tried it as soon as I got home. One thing, you HAVE to read the instructions first. There are certain things you have to have in mind before trying it, like not having anything on your skin (lotion, cosmetics, ointments)
and of course, making sure your skin is completely dry. You also have to do certain movements so that it doesn't damage your skin. You have to buff the area in circular motions 3 times clockwise, then 3 times counterclockwise until the hair is gone.
I gotta say I was stunned when I felt the smooth little area, and although it stings a little, I believe it's cause the stomach is a little sensible or maybe I pressed it too hard. But I loved it! (01/31/2009)

Takes way too long. Shaving is way easier! (01/31/2009)

I hate this it burns your skin and it takes a while before the hair is gone and then its back again the next day. (02/01/2009)

I bought this product yesterday at a trade show. I used it today and it worked well on my legs and arms. It leaves your skin very soft. HOWEVER, I used it on my face and bikini area and it hurts so bad in these two areas! I followed the directions and didn't use pressure, so I'm thinking maybe my skin is just too sensitive in those areas.
I paid $30 for mine and if I had it to do over again... I would still buy it, but I'd try to get it at Bed Bath and Beyond, Walgreens, or CVS. From the reviews above it seems to be a lot cheaper there!

First of all, Smooth Away does work. You don't necessarily have to rub in a circular motion 3 time clockwise and 3 times counterclockwise, that just means you have to rub back and forth until the hair is removed. Second of all since it exfoliated your skin, if you do not moisturize with a non-scented alcohol free moisturizer, most likely your skin will be irritated, and for the woman who used baby oil.. oil clogs the pores on your skin, maybe that is why red bumps appeared on your skin the next day. I WAS tempted like so many others to purchase this. Never would I order anything directly from tv. STUPID. I also rarely buy stuff seen on tv. bought proactive (it works but it's an exception and i only got it with a deal.) but this smooth away seems too good to be true. I'll stick to my venus razor. I love it and it's worked well for me. if it ain't broke don't fix it. if it still works don't replace it.
Aaphrodite, i saw your "review". The sandpaper thing. yeah first time I saw the commercial I instantly thought that sandpaper would probably be a better alternative. while I do not suggest you folks really try this as sandpaper isn't exactly clean, it is cheaper. (02/01/2009)
By moonlitdance
I bought it today at cvs for 10.00. it works. I have a little stinging on my upper lip, but it is nothing compared to using waxing products. Gonna try it on my husbands shoulders today! (02/02/2009)
By leanne
I used the smooth away on my legs and it was ok at first and then I got little red bumps. I also used it on my boyfriends back and it was good. I rubbed lotion on afterward. The next day he had little pus filled pimples all over the side where I did it. I apologized because I totally talked him into it. Don't buy it! (02/02/2009)

I bought this thing at Walgreens. On the commercial this lady was rubbing it up and down all over herself, even though the manual says never to do this. So anyway, I tried this on my upper lip. It stung, my upper lip turned red, and the hair was still there!
Also, the skin was dry and rough - so I put a little bit of the face lotion (which I use all the time) and once the lotion made contact with my upper lip, the skin practically exploded in this crazy sensation of excruciating pain! It made my eyes water. And nothing happened to the hair. I advise you not to buy this product. (02/02/2009)

This is my FIRST SCAM that has happened to me. When ordering online they do not tell you they are charging your card double shipping! (for one tiny box) I received the Smooth Away and it did not work AT ALL. I called to return it and they said they would NOT credit the $14. in shipping. Total scam to collect that inflated shipping charge from all orders. (02/03/2009)
By David
This is the worst product scam. I just bought it and tried it followed the directions verbatim on my face. It did not remove any hair, just burned my face and a week later my skin is still raw. Absolute Waste of MONEY! DO NOT BUY! (02/03/2009)
By Anon
Thank you for the great feedback. I wanted to try smooth away, especially for my upper lip but I have very sensative skin. I have decided not to buy it and just stick with my tweezers. (02/03/2009)

I got this for my chin...nothing works, neither does this mess! It does ok on my upper lip, but Sally Hansen Cold wax strips works a lot better and the fuzz stays away a lot longer. The S & H charges are a rip off as is this not very smooth product, not even gonna try the legs! (02/04/2009)
By janice
I am so upset over this stupid product! I was so excited when I saw it on TV and it said it does the bikini line! Now I'm just glad I never tried it there! I tried the Smooth Away a couple of times, different ways (including what the directions say) just to make sure I gave it a fair trial. Each time my leg came out red and burning. Plus, the website offered this product doubled for 14.99, plus a three month supply for only 9.99, then why was my credit card charged over 60.00? At least I learned my lesson. (02/04/2009)
By MH
Not willing to buy after reading all the reviews! Man am I glad I checked for feedback on this product before pouring out money to buy it! I currently use Veet Sensitive Skin hair removal cream on my bikini and it works great without leaving horrendous red bumps like shaving. I'll stick to shaving my legs. Both Veet and shaving are cheeper than this product and they serve me well. I guess if it's not broken, I shouldn't consider fixing it with this SCAM. (02/05/2009)
By Heather
I'd rather use inexpensive 220 sandpaper. It sorta worked the first time but apparently the smoothing pad works only once.
Back to shaving. (02/05/2009)

OK I bought it yesterday. Im not sure if I should use it i mean half of the people say no and half say yes! IDK Help me! I mostly want it for my upper lip. (02/05/2009)

I bought it target for $9.99 and I found it works awesome. I have a thryoid problem and have hair growth on lip and chin. You really have to follow directions. And make sure face is clean and dry. I even showed my husband and he was amazed how easy it worked. Skin can get sensitive if you go over it to much.
I lightly did and it is smooth. I would say yes for face for sure. (02/06/2009)

I purchased smoothaway at Sally's. I followed the directions to the letter and anticipated the results promised on the commercial and the package..Now, I am on my way to the hospital! The skin on my legs is so red and damaged and swollen I can hardly move! I am not one to just go "aww shucks I was scammed". (02/06/2009)

I bought this last night at Bed, Bath and Beyond* for $9.99, I got it home and wasn't sure about it so I tried it on my boyfriends leg first :) it worked great! So, I did my legs and they feel soooo smooth, the only thing is, " Do they sell refills anywhere or do I have to keep buying the whole thing"? I will continue to use my razor but this will be great for the times when I just don't feel like it :), I would recommend this! (02/06/2009)

Did not remove any hair. My skin is raw and burning. Do not buy this product. (02/06/2009)
By Disappointed
I reluctantly ordered Smooth Away thinking it was probably too good to be true. It was! It did exfoliate my skin but did NOT remove the hair on my legs. I was also dismayed to learn than upon returning the product, they do not reimburse my shipping and handling which came to $13.98--the product total was $14.99, only one dollar more! By the time I pay to send it back I will be in the hole. I am very unhappy with the product and the return policy. I would NOT recommend Smooth Away. (02/06/2009)

Glad I came to this site. Just saw the commercial. Ran to the internet to get the low down regarding reviews. Get some backers on just about anything and make a zillion dollars. The better business bureau will just
look the other way. They should call this thing "the risky rubber"! (02/07/2009)

Hate it. Bought it at a trad show for 25 dollars. Stupid me should of checked my local drugstore, would of saved a lot of money. Seen the lady try it on someones arm, looked like it worked, bought it took it home and tried it removed nothing. What a waste. (02/07/2009)
By leslile
To all of you who say this does not work, I would guess you are not following directions. It will not work if you have any lotion on your skin from the day. Must be CLEAN AND DRY. My mother and myself used this; it only took 15 mins and the hair was gone from our legs. Of course you may have a little stubble at first, but that will eventually go away. Each time it is less and less. You will not have to use it every day. I think that is better than shaving. If you got red, you used too much force.
I have very coarse hair on my legs and it worked. No other products have. Even waxing doesn't get all the hair on my legs. We love it!
Remember, not everything works for everybody the same, but you shouldn't assume it's a scam just because it didn't work for you.

I bought smooth away for 10$ at Tsrget and I can say I'm pretty satisfied. I was very excited to open it when I got home so I did and the first thing I notice is there's only like 4 replacements for each handle thing. So I peeled of the back to one fo the pads, stuck it on the handle, and used it on my arm. It did get rid of my hair, but some hairs were still there. It's not so much of a great hair remover (and no doubt shaving is faster and better) howeverm it made my skin SO soft and smooth. I'm one of those people who has bumpy arm skin and it made it so smooth i've been trying for years to get rid of those bumps. Amazing :) It's definately worth a try (02/08/2009)

My girlfriend and I were at the trade show. She made me try this product - all I can say save your money and your skin! My arm where the lady tested the product is so sore, red, bumpy and now it looks like I have skin disease. My girlfriend is really happy that I tried it for her!

I just bought "smooth legs" which is basically the same as smooth away, from ebay and it arrived yesterday and i immediately put it to the test. It actually worked, honestly, after reading all the reviews, I was really skeptical of it working, but it does. I am indian and have black hair and its not thin, but thick and this product worked on my arms and legs great. It takes some time, not as fast as waxing, which i do normally but if you use the product as directed, and on dry clean skin it really works. I wouldnt try it on the underarm area, I'll stick to waxing or shaving for that area but for arms and legs its great. within half an hour my arms and legs were done and i did it fast. It made my skin soft actually, yes you do get a lil red skin, but within an hr my skin was fine. Now a day later, I feel no burning skin or redness that others mightve felt. I think if it worked on my hair it could work on anybody's, just have patience, :) and do it as directed, in circular motions, clockwise and then counter clockwise and not too fast, or hard because then you'll hurt your skin.
I got 25 pads in a pack from ebay for $15 so mine was a great deal. I know some of you are skeptical like I was but honestly its the best thing i've used and I'm not gonna need to wax everytime now, this is a good alternative and alot less pain. I can't take pain and actually take 3 ibuprofrens an hr before each waxing session, and this didnt hurt me at all. (02/09/2009)
By anya
PS. With the "smooth legs" product from ebay, one pad took care of my arms and half my legs before i had to use a 2nd pad...so it wasnt bad for the price at all. :) (02/09/2009)

Just bought it and used it. It did make my legs soft, but didn't really get rid of any hair. Not that great of a product, I will not be buying it again. (02/09/2009)

I just saw this product at Bed Bath & Beyond for $9.99. I had seen the infomercial a couple of weeks ago and wanted to try it. I guess I will be purchasing it and will post my results. (02/10/2009)

I bought the smooth away for $10 at Rite Aid and tested it out the other day. Well, it did indeed remove the hair from my legs. I have dark hair and my legs were plenty hairy, lol, and the process was painless. However, it was not nearly as fast as the commercials made it seem. The whole thing took about ten full minutes, not "seconds" like the commercial said. So, it does work, but shaving is still easier and faster. The only advantage I can see with the pads is they are portable and dont require water. Hope this helps somebody, :) (02/10/2009)
By Nicole G.
Save your money! This product did not work AT ALL. I tried the face one, then the legs, and seen no results. I also had my friend try it and it didn't work for her either. (02/10/2009)

Is this a good product to replace Brazilian waxing or shaving in "That" sensitive area. I'm Italian so I have this unsightly thick hair and I hate the cuts and razor bumps from shaving, and waxing is expensive, if this product really works let me know. Hey if it can work in that area, it can work on my legs. Thanks. (02/11/2009)
By Dana
I bought 4 one for me and gave three away as gifts. I love it! I also use the lotion that came with it. I only use it once a week and sometimes less. I do follow directions and start with clean dry legs no oils or lotion.
When used as directed it really works. (02/11/2009)
By joyce
Ii really want to try this I mean I shave everyday and even when I'm done shaving my legs still aren't smooth its really embarrassing. I don't even want my boyfriend touching my legs. I need to know if I should buy this, I am so desperate PLEASE HELP! (02/12/2009)
By allie
At first I couldn't get it to work, but then I reread the directions and saw that you are to move it clockwise 3 times, then counterclockwise 3 times! I also put lotion on, and it worked like a charm! (02/12/2009)
By Hannah .
Does not work. Tried on different types of hair and different people. (02/12/2009)
By noway!
I bought it and it does work, BUT it takes a lot longer as they say and it doesn't get your legs perfectly smooth. (02/13/2009)
By Cassandra
I do not believe this is a scam. It really does work. However, I believe you have to be patient with it. I ordered it on Ebay to save $, but it didn't come with instructions. I rubbed way too hard and too much on my face and have had a reaction. I should have used it lightly and been patient. I was determined to remove all the hair on my face all at once. I have read that you're supposed to rub clockwise 3 times and then counter clockwise 3 times. Maybe you should do that instead of rubbing over and over again like I did. My face looks better today and is smooth. (02/14/2009)
By TW
I tried Smooth Away on my face and also had a reaction. My face burned, turned red, swelled up and crusted over. Much like a burn. Years ago there was a similar product - very cheap - and I used that successfully so I was familiar with the technique. There must be something on these pads that some people, like me, are sensitive to. It did remove the hair but is not worth the skin damage. I don't think you'll know if it works for you unless you try it. (02/14/2009)
By SF
I was going to buy this because I am going to sleep away camp and their is no time for shaving their and the mess of the lotions you have to deal with with the hair burning lotions. Does anybody have any painless easy ways to get rid of leg and arm hair or the "bikini line"? I am really clue less now, smooth away was my plan! Thanks! (02/14/2009)

FOR THOSE WONDERING WHY THEY HAD ISSUES... It was probably you. Read the following , Please!
From the site's FAQ page:
Other warnings/tips:
Important: Before using on face and or sensitive areas, use on a small area of skin and wait 24 hours. If no irritation occurs, follow directions for complete hair removal. If irritation occurs, discontinue use in that area. If not used as instructed, skin irritation may occur.
Tip: Slight redness is normal after use on sensitive areas when using hair removal products. If skin appears red or irritated after hair removal, wash the treated area with cold water then apply a milk-soaked cotton ball to the skin for a couple of minutes. This will reduce the redness and irritation. If excessive redness occurs, discontinue use. If irritation persists, consult a physician.
Caution: Excessive rubbing or pressure when removing hair may cause abrasions/irritation to the skin.
Note: You may notice that skin appears whitish or grey in color, this is normal due to exfoliated dead skin cells and will disappear once moisturizer is applied.

Besides the burn, what good is it when your hair grows back everyday? I have pretty thick hair and even creme hair removers take a couple of extra minutes. As far as burning, of course it does, it is basically an Emory board or sandpaper. I have heard that you can use an extra fine (it is usually black) sandpaper that is much cheaper. (02/15/2009)

So I read over 50 reviews on this site and still don't really know if I should get it. I really wonder if maybe "smooth away" is paying people to write good reviews on websites because some of the ones here seem a "fake".
I was reading about UHA as well and wonder if it really works. I know this review is for smooth away, but anyone has ever used UHA (shave no more dot com)? (02/15/2009)
By guy who wants to try it on back
I bought this product from walgreens just a few hours ago. I have wanted to try it and it was only $10. I only tried it on a small section on my leg just in case my skin would get irritated or something. The area I did it on has no hair, feels smooth, and has not been red or irritated. (02/16/2009)
By Brittany
Honestly, I thought it would be a miracle and it is just like shaving. I have this very thick hair and when I shave in the morning I can feel the hair growing back again 5 hours later, and I though I wouldn't have this problem anymore with smoth away. I was wrong. It's pretty much the same thing and it didn't work on my bikini line and underarms, just on my legs and arms, but the hair has to be really short, or it wont work either. Besides the pads stop working too fast it's 1 pad for each half leg.
It's a waist of time and money! I'm going back to the old wax until I have money for a laser treatment. (02/16/2009)
By Kellen
I HATE shaving and avoid it at all cost and am always getting harassed by my friends for my efforts at growing a forest on my legs. I bought this product at walgreens and tried it as soon as I got home. OMG! It was amazing. For me it worked like a dream. The hair came off quickly and painlessly. I thought for sure it would have some pain or irritation but there was none. My legs have never felt smoother. I seriously will never "shave" again. The only downfall is that you go through the pads rather quickly and it was hard to find a good deal on refills. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone. Believe me, it takes a lot for me to like a product enough to leave a review. This one did it for me. (02/16/2009)
By Dawn
I would rather shave. The pads don't last long at all. You need about two pads per leg and it takes forever. The hair also grows back much faster. It got rid of the hair on my armpits but left them really irritated and it did not work on my bikini line at all. There's a reason this thing is only 10 bucks. (02/16/2009)

I tried this product thinking it would work. I have hair on my upper lip and tried to remove it. It didn't work and made my skin burn and red. So I wouldn't recommend using this product. (02/17/2009)

ok soo I'm 15 soo obviously shaving is about the only option that's available to me, so i've also been looking for a shaving alternative thats still kind of like shaving. Recently, A girl in my PE class got these at walgreens and they ACTUALLY DO work! She brought them into class one day too cause she forgot to "smooth away" the night before. She has really dark hair on her legs and it took a bit maybe a minute or so but it worked and got all the hair except for some on her ankles. Other girls have also got it and said it worked for them and then went around making everyone feel how smooth and soft their legs were! haha! I've personally only used it on my arm...but it worked pretty well on my arm too. Hope it helps :-) (02/17/2009)

It is the finest of fine sand paper. I think I am going to just buy sand paper to replace instead of the pads, it worked. Replacement are not being sold, so why not sandpaper! (02/18/2009)
By bubba
This was a another complete waste of money, this thing did not even come to close to working at all. I would rate this as a falsely advertised gimmick. I would advise people to also beware of a lot of the false claims written in the reviews here by people who should like this was the perfect product they have ever used, these are not real reviews, they are written by the company and if you read close they are written like a commercial advertisement. A very poor product that just does not work. Save your money. (02/18/2009)
By j allen
I just bought the smooth away system and I love it! When I first tried it, I thought it didn't work. Then I realized the directions say, "3 circular times clockwise, then 3 times counter clockwise, repeat until hair is gone".
I also rubbed a little too hard when I first got it to work. DO NOT rub hard. It WILL cause skin abrasion. However, as per the directions, "a milk soaked cotton ball applied to skin helps to relieve discomfort".
Bottom line, follow the directions. Replacement pads are not available in any stores that I can find but ARE purchasable through the smooth away website and also through the abc distributing website. This is my favorite TV product so far. Maybe I should stock up on the replacement pads in case they don't stick around. lol (02/18/2009)
By Donna
READ THIS. I read one of the reviews and a woman said you could use fine sand paper or an emery board to copy the smooth away which is way cheaper and better. I got a foot sander which is just like a nail filer but bigger for the bottom of your feet. I rubbed in circular motions and the hair actually came off! After all the bad reviews I didn't want to buy smooth away so I tried this instead.
So SAVE YOUR MONEY people and go to the dollar store and grab a foot filer it works! If you have sensitive skin like me it might get a little irritated from rubbing back and forth in that case take little breaks in between and cold cucumber soothes it. I'm so glad I tried this before I spent the money hope this helps everyone! Good Luck! (02/19/2009)

A COMPLETE waste of money! Don't buy this product. I had read mixed reviews but I thought I would try it for my 11 year old daughter who had just started needing to shave. It was a long and tedious process. Even on her fine hair the pad would work for one use and then its' effectiveness wore off. (02/20/2009)

I bought mine at Target for $ 9.99 and deeply regret it! I used it on my arms and now I have re, itchy, scaly patches all over, in addition to a bunch of pimples (?) and pain!
To all of you who say that the only way it doesn't work is if you don't follow the instructions - that's BS! I followed all the instructions and it still killed my skin! (02/20/2009)

I bought this thinking I would spend less time shaving, as waxing and other hair removal systems always irritated my skin. WHAT A JOKE. I followed the directions to a T and still wound up with irritated skin. I went back to my old standby "EPILADY"! It hurts initially, but then you're fine. I didn't have to shave for 6 months after using my epilady! (02/20/2009)

Biggest rip off out there, huge waste of money, dries out your skin on legs etc. and leaves a nice rash on your face. It's garbage. You may as well go but a 15 cent piece of sandpaper from home depot (02/20/2009)

Smooth away sucks! My skin turned ashy when I used it and it got REALLY irritated. I followed the directions and it still gave me horrible results. I wouldn't recommend this product. (02/21/2009)

I have pros and cons: My mom actually bought the smooth away, and intended using it for facial hair, for example, above the lips. I tried the larger pad one night on my legs, and found it actually did remove hair-- but the smoothness is only felt when touching legs in a downward motion, not upward. (My legs were softer feeling though!).
The smooth away won't remove all hair, but seems like it would work in emergency situations, if you don't happen to have a razor blade. A really bad aspect to smooth away is that when i tried it SLIGHTLY on my upper lip, it became irritated, and my mom said when she used it in the same spot it became scabbed and irritated for about a week. Gross :(
If you already bought it, don't worry! Try this, it works for me at least: use a regular shaver to shave your legs, but before applying lotion or anything, (make sure legs are dry) use the smooth away to exfoliate legs, leaving an even softer feel. I'm guessing that all the dead skin cells are whats removed away, which would usually just keep legs feeling rough.
Apply lotion after :) This worked out for me, because usually when i shave my legs still don't feel too smooth, just hairless. The smooth away definitely can help as basically an Emory board. For skin. Just don't use Smooth away on you face for sure! (02/21/2009)

Like anything else Smooth Away will not work for everybody, but I have coarse hair - I tried the Smooth Away on my arm and legs and it worked perfectly! I bought it at an 'As Seen on T.V.' store so I was able to have the salesman demonstrate. The trick is to rub LIGHTLY for about 20 seconds in circles. Used the small pads on my face, worked very well as long as I was extra gentle, Not very affective on my armpits though. As for bikini area, I'll shave first and then use the Smooth Away as a finisher to make the skin softer. Replacement pads are expensive though - thinking of trying super fine sandpaper..lol...I'll let you know how that goes. (02/22/2009)

My mother bought the Smooth Away Shaving System from a "As Seen On Tv" store. She tried it and said it didn't really do any good for her sensitive skin.
About two weeks ago, my boyfriend and I saw the info-merical for the product. I told him my mother had tried it and said it didn't work. He asked if I had tried and I told him I hadn't.
Well, I decided to use it and see if maybe my mother had done something wrong. I did the test area on my lower leg, and it seemed to work. So I decided to do both of my legs.
BAD IDEA! It takes too long, and I now have red bumps and irritation on my calves. It was not worth the money my mother spent, and now I have to wait until my legs heal to shave. After seeing the results, I refuse to try this product on any other areas of my body, I will not be suggesting this product to anyone. And I think they should be reported to the Better Business Bureau. (02/23/2009)

I just bought this at Bed Bath and Beyond and tried it out. It worked pretty OK but it's hard to tell if you got all the hairs since your arm turns out white. I followed directions and used very little force so there is no redness or swelling so far. I don't like shaving since I hate ingrown hair - I'll post again after a few days to report my arm status. ;) (02/23/2009)

Bought these for $10 at CVS to try them. Worked well on my arms but didn't remove all the hair. (This was fine with me since it just thinned out the hair, so it isn't as noticeable.) Tried it on a patch of my leg stubble and it did work. But that one patch took forever, so I can't imagine doing both legs! Then I tried it on my face and had a bad reaction to it. I just tried one little spot on my chin, and today it is red and irritated. It didn't take the hair off at all. So, I wouldn't recommend it for facial hair. I will probably just use it on my arms from time to time. (02/24/2009)

I've never used it and after reading these reviews I never will. I think it is stupid and a waste of money. You could buy food or health insurance or something for that much money. Stupid invention! (02/24/2009)

Complete waste of money. I saw it for only $10 so i fiqured I would try it. It was like throwing $10 down the toilet. I followed the directions and used it first on my upper lip. It worked a little bit but left me somewhat red. The next day I decided to try on my legs and underarms. I had to go over the same area over and over and it still barely got any hair off. Soon after I got a huge rash on my legs and underarms which burned and hurt like hell. I do have senesitive skin though, so i'm probably not smart to have tried this but some reviews say they have sensitive skin and it worked. I may use it again on my upper lip but never anywhere else. Maybe not be painful when you do it but the aftermath sure can be painful! (02/25/2009)

I bought this yesterday at CVS for 10.00. What a joke this product is! It doesn't remove any hair and all I ended up with was a rash all over my face! The company that markets this trash should be reported to the better business bureau! Don't waste your money! (02/25/2009)

Now I just love my Smooth Away. I agree it takes time to use it, but well worth the time. My hair does not grow back as fast or course & it exfoliates as it removes the hair...it's 2 in 1. (02/25/2009)
By Michelle
I bought this and it actually worked. It does take a little time, but it worked. Maybe each time will get easier. The only downfall is that I had to use a separate pad for each leg. Maybe this was because I let my hair grow a little longer because I had planned on getting them waxed, but wanted to try this first. I'll be using this again. (02/25/2009)
By Toodalu
It looked like a good idea. However, it is a bit like sandpaper on the skin and didn't remove any fine upper lip hair. Basically none of it! Do not waste your money. (02/26/2009)
By Not impressed
I just ordered it and hopefully I'll have good results! I think just rubbing very, very, VERY lightly would help everyone, even though I haven't tried it yet. I hope it works for me.
P.S.- I do not work for the company, why would the company even be smart enough to come to this website if some people claim they are not smart enough to make a good product? I'm in high school so I don't even have a job! (02/26/2009)

Are the Smoothaway people allowed to post here? I guess so, as guests. Just keep one thing in mind, if a product sounds too good to be true, it probably is. And if we gather here to get reviews, it's because we are already skeptical. Think about it. (02/26/2009)

It takes forever to remove the hair and even then its not near as close as shaving. I had stubble that resembled one to two days after shaving. About a day later my legs were itchy and now, 4 days later I have a pretty nasty rash on both legs. Very red and very itchy. I've had to put a steriodal cream on it. I would'nt waste your money on this. Shaving is quicker, more effective, and lasts longer, not to mention it doesn't leave a hideous rash. (02/27/2009)
By Kelley
I tried it and it took forever! I tried it on my face and it resulted in this irritated red mess, so I recommend NOT to do it on your face. It doesn't work on my armpits but worked SLIGHTLY okay on my legs. Sorta smooth but I rather shave. Maybe using both as a combo will work. I'm going to try it on my boyfriend since his hair is course so it might work for him! No more hairy back hopefully, haha. (02/27/2009)

OMG! Rip off, ripe off, off rip off! I did it on my arms and it really didn't take that long. I wasn't able to remove al the hair, but I figured I can just shave off the rest later. Then I moved on to my face. I did my upper lip and my eye brows. Right away they turned red. I was so gentle too. Didn't take much off. Well the next morning my arms were sore, and when I jumped in the shower, they burned. And as for my face, I had light scabbs on my upper lip and eyebrow area. Not the most attractive. I was really self conscience and my arms in pain. I placed cetaphil( my daughters sensitive cream) on hopeing that would help, and even that burned. I was in pain taking showers for over a month. I had to gently soap up my arms with my hands and not a loofa or wash cloth. I don't even have sensitive skin either. Avoid at all costs! (02/28/2009)

I just bought this system at CVS and it really works if you have the time and effort to use it. I really like it just wish it wouldn't take so long to do. It took me 2 hours just to get my legs how smooth they would be with a razor! (02/28/2009)

I bought this product for my daughter and I tried it myself. I like the product and it worked for my fine upper lip hair. My daughter used it for the same reason and she also likes it. Yes if you rub too hard or do it for too long of a time you will get a rash from it. After we used it we did as the directions said and put a milk compress on the area and didn't have any more problems. I would recommend the product to my friends. (02/28/2009)
Hmmm. I don't know about you guys, but I've been using the Smooth Away product for about 2 months now and have had no problems with it.
It took away what I needed it to take away, and left me no irritation, bumps, rash, and redness. I like it, but then again, that's me! (02/28/2009)

Thanks so much for these reviews. I almost went out and bought a similar product today after seeing the infomercial. I will avoid this product now. (03/01/2009)

I tried this and it did not work at all! I don't have sensitive skin or coarse hair so I thought it would be ok to try. Bought it at a CVS came home tried it on my upper lip, nothing, not a hair came off. I even rubbed hard and nothing, no rash either. Tried my legs, same thing, nothing. Tried the arms, now with a little work and rubbing hard I finally got some hair off. This product SUCKS! I am going to return it for my money back! (03/02/2009)
By Stephanie
It really works if you have the time for it. I bought it yesterday and I really liked it. Although, it does leave some hair here and there but you can just shave the rest off. It left my arms really smooth. I probably won't use it very often because it takes such a long time, but I will definitely use it once in a while. (03/02/2009)

If you don't like it on your legs, Conair has a really nice product that is basically the same thing but in a hand-held power wand. You plug it in and run it over your legs. Since it runs in a circular motion, you just need to run it up and down your leg LIGHTLY because the crystals are like sandpaper and will irritate even non-sensitive skin.
I'm thinking about trying the Smooth Away for other areas of my body since I like the Conair system so much but it can only be used on the legs. I find the best thing is to use the "buffer" system right before you get into the shower, then shave your legs anyway to get any hairs that were missed. This makes for VERY smooth silky legs and getting in the shower right after buffing gets rid of the ashy look as well.
I do love the idea of being able to buff off stray brow hairs and also buff my bikini area because I'm sick of razor bumps. There's nothing I have found that prevents razor bumps except simply not shaving, but buffing. Just make sure it's done very lightly and not more than once or twice in the same area because it WILL IRRITATE SKIN! (03/06/2009)

Here's a REALLY good (and funny) review of the Smooth Away! http://rockstarmamaonline.com/theblog/?p=75 (03/07/2009)
I purchased this "AFTER" reading positive reviews on a smooth away reviews site. Wished I'd read these first as the As Seen on TV store said upfront "no refunds" on hair removal. I paid $14.95 for a pack of garbage. This doesn't work. I followed all directions and this thing just doesn't work. I can't believe I threw my money away like this. (03/15/2009)

I was very disappointed with this product. It took off most of the hair on my legs, but I wound up with a very bad rash that lasted for over a week. I felt like I had a 2nd degree burn. Plus my skin was very dry. I still have a few spots that have not healed all the way and it's been over a month since I used this product. I am so glad I did not use this product on my face. I have been discouraging everyone I know not to waste their money on this product and save themselves pain and discomfort. (03/17/2009)

I personally really like the Smooth Away system. I've read the comments, and I don't find a lot of the negative comments written here to be a problem for me personally.
While on a recent trip to CVS, my husband Jamie saw a display of Smooth Away kits and decided to surprise me with it when he got home. (He remembered me commenting on how much I'd like to try it... every single time we saw the commercial on TV! What can I say? Dude's got an AWESOME memory! LOL!)
I, of course, was super-excited and pretty much TORE into the packaging when he gave it to me! =D Here are the Pros and Cons of this product, in my opinion:
PROS:
1) The kit is pretty inexpensive, especially in comparison to other hair-removal methods/tools available on the market today,
2) If you follow the directions ("rub 3 times clockwise then 3 times counter-clockwise") the results are pretty amazing and uniform,
3) It gets just about every single hair,
4) I've found that buffing the hair off my legs takes roughly half the time that shaving them does,
5) I love that it exfoliates my skin (especially on my legs), along with removing the hair, leaving a perfectly touchable, satiny-smooth finish every time, therefore reducing or even eliminating the need to apply lotion after using,
6) The hair on my legs grows back less and less coarse each time I use it, I don't have to buff nearly as often as when I shaved, and I don't have ANY painful/infected razor-bumps or ingrown hairs to deal with,
7) I've NEVER gotten a rash, had any irritation whatsoever, or experienced any other 'skin-trauma' problems, as some of the other reviewers have stated here. I think the trick is not only to be gentle while buffing away the hair, but also, if needed, to use a hypoallergenic, fragrance-free lotion after buffing to reduce irritation (my personal fave - Vaseline Intensive Moisture Locking Lotion Unfragranced); and finally,
8) The kit is readily-available and easy to find in most drugstores and Supercenters, as well as online.
CONS:
1) The whole Smooth Away kit is CONSIDERABLY less expensive than just the replacement pads are,
2)The buffing pads don't last all that long (I can only do one leg before I have to peel the old pad off and replace it with a new one - and I have very fine, thin hair on my legs!),
3) It doesn't work very well on my bikini area (I think I'll just stick with getting a bikini wax every 6-8 weeks!),
4) Did I mention that the replacement pads are hard to find, not to mention that the price is pretty astronomical? LOL! =)
Bottom Line:
For leg hair and light facial hair removal, I HIGHLY recommend trying the Smooth Away system; for underarm and bikini line hair removal, I'd still recommend shaving or waxing (For those of you who have never had your armpits waxed, I'll be the first to tell you that it's not nearly as painful as you'd think it would be... it's TOTALLY worth the $10-$12 it costs to get it done; for me, having my eyebrows waxed hurts 10-times more!).
So, there you have it! I hope this helped and that you found it to be useful and informative.
Oh, and if anyone knows where online I can get the replacement pads for a decent price, please let me know! You can contact me at scbeauty1983 @ bellsouth . net (remove spaces).
Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!

I just bought Smooth Away today and used it on my arms. I agree with others, it took a while to get all the hair off but it left them super smooth, kinda like using Nair but without the burn. The pads are very smooth and felt soft on the skin. People have to keep in mind, everyone is different. If you are trying to use it on thick hair, especially if the arms have never been shaved, then of course it's not going to work very well. Your hair has to be barely growing back for it to work right. Plus if you use it the wrong way, that's when it causes the skin irritation. Either that or you just have sensitive skin. I would recommend it, and do plan on continuing to use it. (03/21/2009)

I tried this and it didn't work at all. The people on T.V. are just getting paid to say its good. (03/24/2009)

It works but not all that well. Certainly not the way they claim in the info-mercials. The shipping is what shocked me. I purchased six of the smooth aways,
the total came to $64.95, shipping was $53.92. I called to inquire about the shipping; they charged regular shipping for each one I purchased. No break, no matter how many you buy. I was curiious to see what the shipping would be and had it weighed at the post office, came to $8.79.
Shipping and handling is where they make their money. I would not reccomend purchasing this item and certainly not on line. (04/06/2009)

I bought smooth away a couple months ago. It doesn't work as well as I hoped it did. It takes super long to remove the hair. Once you do it will stay smooth and nice for a good four hours. I have thick hair so it grows back within the next day. I also have very sensitive skin so it irritates my bikini and underarm areas. (04/11/2009)

I like it. I don't use it on thicker leg hair. I cut the big pads down to use on my lip. IF you use just the right amt of pressure and do it like they say, it works! No beauty is pain free! Use a moisturizer after! But like I said, if you use it right, its pretty good for the upper lip. I wouldn't use the big pads on my legs it takes too long. This is less painful than waxing! : ) (04/16/2009)

Both my daughter and I tried it. I used it on my face and I have little tiny scabs every where and my face burns. I can not even put lotion on it and it feels and looks like alligator skin. My daughter used on her legs and she has a rash up and down her legs and she says they burn. She too tried to put aquaphor on the bumps and it burned. I called smooth away customer service to tell them and the guy said well it doesn't work on everybody. I told him why not post that on their site, and he said it is up to the person to know their skin. I am not sure about you, but I never thought to test my skin by rubbing australian crystals around in circles all over. He did not even offer to give my money back. Please beware as I am sure my face has permanent scarring, in which I will look to sue them. (04/20/2009)

Made my legs bleed! Do NOT use. I use Beauty Maid's Velvet Touch now and it works fine. (04/23/2009)

I have been using this for several months, and found it works pretty well on my legs. Although I'm a redhead (dark red), I have fairly course hair on my arms, and it does wonders for that. Bikini area? Not so well. Face? Have not tried it out on lip or chin.
I did not bleed or have a rash of any kind after using it, but the first few times did make my skin kind of tingle a bit. A friend of mine did get some irritation, but when she found out she wasn't doing it according to the directions (she didn't clear off moisturizer AND was rubbing too hard AND was going side to side instead of circles), she perfected her technique and is pleased with it.

UGH! I bought this thing at Wal-Mart on Friday and I wish I didn't! It's like just a piece of sandpaper and didn't work. Also, it hurts. And it didn't remove my leg hair. My friend Michelle tried it on her lip and it left a rugburn-type burn. OMG!
Did it work for anybody? Maybe I was rubbing too hard. Maybe it's just a scam. There's a funny review of this on RockstarMamaOnline.com that I wish I read before wasting $12. Guess I'll go back to the razor. (04/25/2009)

I'm sticking to my razor. I bought smooth away at the store and I am VERY disappointed with it. It doesn't work at all. I have done what the instructions say and the ONLY thing it does is make my legs smooth. I wouldn't suggest this product to anyone unless you like wasting money. (05/04/2009)

I finally bought this product 5days ago and I Ddo not encourage this product. I shaved on Saturday after buying, it didn't seem to work at first, yes it is like sand paper, the hair started to come off and took just about all the refills that were sent plus it took hours. Afterward my legs were smooth, but white just as the instructions said, I put lotion on my legs and as drying when the air hit my legs, I began to feel fire. It really felt like my legs had a thousand needles hitting them. I rush to the shower to cool off, which helped and I had to wrap up until my legs felt healed.
Everyday when getting up the whiteness has come back. It's like there is now something wrong with my skin. It has been again 5days now, the hair is back, and the whiteness won't stay gone. I'm becoming very concerned and soon will get my doctor to check it out, if my skin doesn't change. I think this product has more negative for most than positive, so again I would not encourage buying this product. I do think nair is better, or a razor, or the other product that you shave with a non-razor that is plastic. Hope this helps someone. (05/07/2009)

I'm a male and I like to have smooth legs. I don't like shaving it works perfectly fine in two days till I get a rash and razor bumps so I decided to get smooth away yesterday with my cousin. Since nair didn't work as well, I thought it would as soon I got to my cousin house we tried it, and we didn't see any results. I was following what the instructions said. I tried it on my foot and it toke a while to remove the hair it didn't work. So I just began to rub harder and to this day my right foot feels like it was rub by sandpaper. I'm just going to hold on for a few days and return it ASAP smooth away does not work! (05/08/2009)

I bought this product a week ago and boy do I ever regret wasting my money on this horrible product, not only did it not work but it left a nice rash and stubble. I DO NOT recommend buying this product at all. (05/10/2009)
By Theresa
This thing does work, kind of. It works well on thin, light hair. I used it on my upper lip, my chin and jaw, and, just for fun, my big toes, and it did wonders. It does exfoliate, so if your skin is sensitive, it will get a little reddish and raw, but frankly, my upper lip gets quite red when I have it waxed, too, but the redness from waxing lasts much longer. And hurts worse. If you use the Smooth Away gently, the redness only lasts for a short time, doesn't really hurt, and the hair is gone. Maybe put a little unscented moisturizer on the area after to help calm it down.
But, this does not work well on thicker hair. I think that maybe some reviewers rubbed too hard when they realized that the product does not remove leg hair or underarm hair very well, resulting in painful, raw skin.
I would recommend this product only for thin, "peach fuzz"-type hair. I would not recommend rubbing very hard at all. If the hair doesn't come off with light rubbing, just give up; you are asking for a world of hurt by trying harder. (05/10/2009)

I just wanted to let anyone concerned about losing money that if you purchase your Smooth Away from Walgreen's and are not happy with the results, Walgreens will gladly give you a refund or exchange. Please make sure you have your receipt and it is with in 30 days of purchase if you are expecting a refund. Other than that, they will usually give you a store credit in the form of a gift card or store exchange. (05/13/2009)
