My oldest son has the Amazon Firestick and loves it. He loves all kinds of shows, movies, old series and he has Firestick works great.
About Alexa - here is what I found:

"You can disable Alexa only in an Echo or Echo Dot device (that's not Firestick). There are no settings or ways to disable Alexa on an Amazon Firestick... If and when you let go of the button, Alexa automatically turns off and tells you on-screen that if you want to use Alexa, you must hold down the button while you talk."

Hope that explains it.

I have the regular Amazon Fire Stick and the Amazon Fire Stick 4G (for 2 separate tv's). Both work fine (does it's purpose) but for whatever reason my 4G one the remote control suddenly stopped working. But you can download the app as a way to turn off if you don't want to use the remote. Here is my post on it: www.thriftyfun.com/Fire-TV-App-as-Remote.html

I don't have Alexa but you can see answers here regarding to your question: www.amazon.com/.../1 (Affiliate Link)

My daughter has the Alexa and my grandson has the fire stick. They have recently moved and for some reason, they are having some issues with the new cable in their area and the only way they seem to be able to sync up the voice on the TV with the program they are watching is through the Alexa. But when my grandson tries to use the fire stick with Alexa it is not working correctly at all.

It appears the two are not compatible together and you need to use one or the other. On the fire stick, you can not control the Alexa or even turn it off or on. You have to manually control the setting on these. I think it would be best to buy one or the other because they don't seem to work well together and they are always having issues with this at their home.

I didn't care for the Firestick. I purchased one when it was on sale...because my sister raved about how much she loved it. I sent it back the next day. You must be a paying member of everything on there except for YouTube.

I also didn't think it was that user friendly. (I personally just hook up my laptop to my TV via HDMI cord and I watch YouTube or anything else that's on the internet that way.)
