My Pony riding mower with a Briggs and Stratton engine worked fine two summers in a row, even after sitting in the garage during the winter. Last night I went to start it up, pushed it out of the garage, and turned the key, nothing. It doesn't even make a sound. Makes me think it's a dead battery, but could it be a fuse thing? How do I test out the various options? I know nothing about engines.

If your mower has sat in the garage all winter you'll need to charge the battery or buy a new one. I hope you emptied the gas out of the tank when you stored the mower. If you didn't then you'll need to clean out the tank because the gas has left sludge in the tank. This can clog your carburetor and give you other problems after you get the engine started again.
