Roof Repair Assistance for Low Income Homeowners?

I am 48yrs old, and I recently lost my job, though I am currently looking for work. I do not have a bank account, my house is 118 years old. Parts of my roof have fallen off, my roof also leaks very badly. I am in desperate need of a new roof. The entire roof has be replaced, not only the shingles, but the entire roof. I also have squirrels in my walls, because there are holes in my roof. Unfortunately I am also in need of complete financial help. I need a roofing company who is willing to do a complete roof replacement for free. Please someone help me.

Contact HUD.org, or Habitat for Humanity, or a local church.

You are asking for free help that may not be in government agency's budget as being unemployed - not a senior and not on disability or young children involved (?) - may not qualify you for this kind of costly repair.

  • Roofing repairs are costly in many ways - permits cost money and your roof may have structural damage that would keep a company from getting a regular permit. That means the structure would have to be repaired before a roof could be installed. We are talking about upwards of $20 to $30 thousand dollars or even more according to the area and the size of the house.
  • Government agencies or private agencies do not have the kind of budget to do repairs (even needed repairs) for just anybody who may need home repairs.
  • It is sad that so many are unemployed and sad that so many homes need repairs that the homeowner cannot afford to do, but most of those in maybe similar situations cannot get free repairs unless they qualify as low income (not just unemployed), senior, disability, or/and small children involved.

  • Does that mean you should not apply? Certainly not.. You should apply to as many agencies as you find, especially in your local area.
  • Just Google something like - free home repairs for needy with your zip code - many site will come up for you to apply.
  • here is an example in my area:
  • Good luck and I hope you will not have to be unemployed very long.

Your house is very old...if your house was a historical landmark or had some historical significance, you could see if your city's history and landmarks department could help. Google your town and the phrase history and landmarks to find your local office.

You don't say what city or town you are in, but some towns have redevelopment authorities (Google your town and the word revitalization or redevelopment) that offer low interest loans that help people repair homes in neighborhoods that are being redeveloped or revitalized.

The last thing you can try is a Go Fund Me for your repairs. Perhaps if you could get a church or religious group to donate money for the supplies, you could raise the money for the labor through a Go Fund Me. I know from personal experience people can be very generous for friends and relatives who are having a rough go. If you go that route, be sure when you are able to repay the Karma and pay the kindness forward!

Good luck and prayers!
