My husband is a retired veteran of the United States Air Force. He was diagnosed with COPD a couple of years ago. We experienced roofing damage during hurricane Matthew and tried to get help through FEMA, but because we have home owner's insurance, they couldn't help. Our deductible is $2500 and we just don't have that kind of money. I am the only one working. How do I find out how to get help? It's caused extensive ceiling damage in our family room, our kitchen floor is buckled and tiles are coming up, there's a smell in kitchen corner and it has caused floor damage in our bathroom.

There are places that veterans can get help but one of the closest and easiest to ask is your local American Legion. If you are not a member then you probably should be but it does not matter - have your husband visit the one in your area.
Here is a link to find one in your area.
First and foremost, it is a shame how we treat our veterans. If he were an immigrant, help would be there for him. It makes me angry our vets should receive service when they need it, but so many have to fight for assistance. Shame on our government officials.
Call Habitat for Humanity. Here is a link, I don't know your location. This is for the US.

Thank you so much, we are in Hampton Va so hopefully Habitate can help us. I work full time and our home is a beautiful home but is slowly being destroyed because we can't get roof repaired. We live within our means, the house was built in 1964, we bought it from for sale by owner and put alot of money into it when my husband was able to work, he can't now due to copd.
Habitat for Humanity helps veterans. You could also get in contact with social services in your area, local churches, and HUD.org.
