I requested a claim on my homeowners insurance to get a new roof. I was issued a check for 1500. I know a new roof and the labor cost more than that. Where can I get help getting a new roof since insurance won't help with entire funding. I only bring home 1100 a month and I'm trying to put my son thru med school.

Go to HUD.org and click on your state
If you qualify under low income status you may be able to get help from one of your local agencies.
Try checking out resources on your phone with dialing 211 and see if there are any places listed that will give you a place to start. Also, Google your question with your zip code as there are probably agencies listed that might be able to help.
So sorry to hear you are having issues. Don't give up hope for help...sometimes it just takes a lot of digging and asking.
You don't mention what state or city you are in. I live in PA and there are a lot of legitimate (state or city funded) sites that help low income home owners with repairs. I have found them all through Google.
You can contact your local state senator (also found through Google) and ask them to help you sort out which sites are legitimate and which aren't as you don't want to be taken in by a scam or con artist. His/her services will be free (well...paid for by tax dollars, but they won't ask you to pay again.)
My other 3 suggestions are:
1. Do you belong to a religious organization (church, synagogue, mosque etc.)? Some have discretionary funds that are used to help parishioners in need. It is all very private and no one needs to know. Perhaps they could pay to have the roofer install or maybe someone in the congregation is a roofer and they could pay him/her or he/she could donate the services.
2. Since you have a computer and are posting here, have you considered setting up a Go Fund Me or like crowd sourcing pages?
They are fairly easy to do, you tell your story and ask for help. I know from first hand experience they work if you work to get the message out there.
3. Sometimes Kiwanis or Rotary or Lions have projects in their community where they help people in need. It can't hurt to see if your town has such a group and ask. The worst they can say is no, the best yes, or in the middle...we can't help but....FILL IN THE BLANK can!
Roofing is a huge undertaking so be sure that whomever you use has the right permits and insurances so you are protected!
Good luck!
