SSI Benefits in Lieu of Child Support?

My son's father was paying child support, but recently stopped because he gets a disability (crazy) check. I was told my child could receive a SSI check to make up for him not getting the child support. If so, how would I go about it?

Go to the Social Security Office nearest to you explain the situation. They'll have you fill out an application and help you get the ball rolling. It's called Dependent Child Benefits or something like that. You child/children should be eligible until age 18.

First, please do not offend people on disability for mental issues - that is uncalled for. Secondly, yes your children are entitled to money from his SSD since he is not able to work.

It is seperate and has nothing to do with child support. Apply for it at your local Social Security office and be sure to take birth certificates with you.
