Having an alarm system provides peace of mind in the comfort of your own home. After researching many alarm companies and getting quotes, I found that you will be charged an upfront fee for the cost of equipment and labor (which is from several hundreds to thousands) plus monthly fees with contract.
Some companies will charge more money for an alarm system, if you do not have a landline (I don't have a landline). Plus, you will also have to obtain permits for police/fire department for remote monitoring or emergency response features and pay a yearly fee.
Going the traditional alarm system route was just too much money and out of our budget. After research, I found out about alarm systems where you could install yourself, like this Ring Alarm. You could still have the same features as traditional alarm systems where you could have remote monitoring or emergency response features - for a lower cost of $10 monthly, no long term commitments or cancellations. If you want remote monitoring/emergency response features, you do need to obtain permits and pay yearly fee but it is much less money overall!
However, you can also legally install your alarm system yourself and not have your alarm system monitored instead have your alarm system monitored by you or your family, which is the route we went with!
Currently this Ring Alarm Wireless 10 piece Security Kit is on sale at Costco for $189.99+ tax. If you think about that price upfront, it is just $0.57 cents a day for the year, that is an amazing price for the security of your family! This kit comes with a base station, keypad, range extender, motion detector and 6 contact sensors.
The instructions are self explanatory and took us about 90 minutes to set up. So far, it has been a couple weeks and we have been enjoying the ease of this alarm system while feeling safe in our home as well as being able to monitor on the go! If you have any questions, Ring Chat representatives will be more than happy to guide you.
Overview:
The upfront cost is an example that this costs .57 cents a day for the year but the system will definitely last longer than that. There is no contract :) Im sure this system will last several years or more!
