Scouring Pots and Pans

Bronze Feedback Medal for All Time! 190 Feedbacks

Rather than soak and scrub hard to remove baked on, caked on food from pots/pans try this. Add a little water and place back on the stove and simmer. While simmering, take a wooden turner or spatula and gently scrap away the baked on food. Then wash pan as usual in hot soapy water, rinse, and dry.

This process is similar to "deglazing" pan juices to make a sauce only this time you're cleaning the pan, not making a sauce.

Total Time: 10-15 minutes

Steps:

  1. Add water to pot/pan.
  2. Place on stove burner set on medium to low heat.
  3. Let simmer 10-15 minutes tops.
  4. Gently scrape with a wooden turner/spatula to loosen food particles.
  5. Wash, rinse, and dry as usual.

I have to say that I was skeptical at first, but this really does work and I do it all the time now.

If you add some vinegar to the boiling water, it is even easier to remove cooked/burned on food..

I was doing this back in the middle of the last century. Works like a charm. Thanks!
