Silver Post Medal for All Time! 408 Posts Turn an empty oval shaped bottle into a sea themed vase, ideal to celebrate the summer months! This recycled craft will add a great décor element to a beach house.
Total Time: 30 minutes, drying time included
Yield: one bottle vase
Supplies:
- clear oval shaped empty glass wine bottle
- roll of 1mm wide cotton twine
- a selection of small sea shells and pieces of coral
- white acrylic paint
- quick-drying craft glue (such as Bostik Clear)
- hot glue gun and glue stick
- quick-drying matt clear spray varnish
- standard scissors
- sponge ~ use one that was in a medicine bottle
Steps:
- Wash the bottle and allow to dry upside down overnight. If necessary, use mineral turpentine to remove any glue residue from where the label was stuck.
- Use a sponge and give the bottle an uneven wash with the white paint. Paint all the way up to the top, but do not paint the bottom of the bottle. Allow to dry thoroughly.
- Tie the twine around the lip of the bottle and make a knot, leaving a piece of twine that you can use to make a knot at the end again to finish it off. Now tightly wind the twine in a criss-cross pattern all around the top two thirds of the neck and back around to finish the top of the bottle, making sure that you do not leave any hollow spots. Cut off any remaining twine and make a knot with the two ends to finish it off. Neatly cut off the remainder of the ends and add a drop of craft glue to the knot to secure it.
- Hot glue the shells and pieces of coral to the bottle.
- Spray the bottle with a coat of varnish and allow to dry.
