I just now came up with this idea. I'm sure it's one I'll stick with.
Several years ago, I planted a pack of calendula seed. It was my first time. I was very impressed. I had flowers of different sizes, some recurve. I had several shades of yellow, gold, orange and rust. All would have been suitable for a bouquet. They all were so nice, I couldn't decide which to keep seed from. So, I kept seed from all. Over the years, I lost track of my seed and forgot about them.
This year, I decided to buy fresh seed and grow more calendula. I didn't remember which brand I bought before, so I just got the first I saw. I have been very disappointed. All the flowers are small and I have just two colors, one shade of yellow and and one shade of orange.
My tip: I have a gardening folder in my computer with sub folders for each year. I enter pictures and notes. I write a lot of notes, especially about things I did wrong, as I don't want to repeat the same mistake.
Sometimes though, having a physical object in your hand can be handier and faster than a computer. So from now on, I'm keeping all seed packets, both from seed I liked and from seed I don't want to buy, again. I'll know which brands I bought and whether I was satisfied with a given brand
I'll make notes on a trimmed 3x5 index card, then place the card into the empty packed. I have a feeling that early next year, I'll be glad I thought of this.
