How do I connect with someone who wants special wood for projects or furniture? I have a live pecan tree, very old, very tall, and large circumference of trunk and limbs. I want to speak with someone about them cutting it and buying the wood from me.

It will be difficult to find anyone that will cut one large tree for free much less pay you for it.
Tree cutting is very expensive and milling the wood is also expensive.
You do not say where this tree is located but it sounds like it is in a residential area. This would make it even more complicated as there will be the danger of a fallen tree hitting a house, garage, driveway and usually not enough room to maneuver large equipment and a log hauling truck. Think of the damage they could do to your yard and the stump removal and cleanup will cost almost as much as felling the tree.
You might try checking Google with your question and zip code to see what mills and small wood working yards are in your area. Give some of them a call but I think you will be disappointed to find how much it may cost you to remove the tree.
I do not think pecan wood is listed as one of the truly valuable woods.
Here is an article that is well worth reading - long but lots of
information & written by someone who works with 'special wood'.

You may be able to contact someone on this site that can help you with this question. The will require a picture that shows tree and another showing surrounding area as where you are located (and measurements).
If you can actually find a person to cut down the tree and haul it away they will not pay you for the wood that is in this tree. The reason being is the cost of the work and how dangerous it can be. Normally people are not interested in hiring the machine and trucks that are necessary to cut down such a tree. There is also a lot of risk factor involved in this one. Where the tree is located, if it is next to a home, next to power lines, or if it did fall would it damage property. There is a lot to consider when cutting down a tree of this size and normally it would take a professional tree cutting company to do such a job in your area. This costs money and they are not willing to pay for this work and then pay you for the wood on top of this.
You also need to check with your local area government office about cutting down large trees like this and if you need some sort of insurance or permit to do the work in your area. There is a lot to consider. You can try to advertise this on Craiglist to see if you can find a person who is willing to cut it down and haul it away for you. I am not sure if this person would also be willing to pay for the wood. The other option is to get a company to cut it down for you, you pay for the work, then you try and sell the wood from the tree.
You can advertise online through, facebook, tweeter , insta - gram , flyers, church, etc. When you advertise be sure to only put your zip code for potential clients .
I'm not sure if you will find people to buy it for you. people only buy wood for fireplaces in the winter and I'm not sure pecan would be it
you might find some artisan or carpenter who wants it for an art project. Maybe call universities with art schools, or furniture craftsmen in your area
