Selling a Vintage Cabbage Patch Doll?

Selling a Vintage Cabbage Patch Doll - boy doll in sweatsI have a vintage Cabbage Patch doll from 1978, autographed by Xavier Roberts. It is in excellent condition, has been very well taken care of, and is super clean. He comes with original clothing and pamper. I found its value at $900 in the condition it's in, but am not sure where I can sell it. Of course I would be reasonable on pricing.

I love CPK!! They are fun!

When you say autographed, do you mean it has the standard signature that came with all dolls or that XR actually autographed (like in person signed) your doll?

If it is the latter, you will want to seek out an auction house for it and have them help you sell it. I have never seen one like that, so that is my best advice on that scenario.

If it is the standard signature that came with all dolls, eBay is the best place to sell this.

This little one is a good seller, and sells consistently, however, I have not seen one like this sell for more than $25. I would love to know where one sold for $900 if it is just a regular doll. That would be awesome!!

Post back with more info and how your sale goes!! Blessings and all good wishes!!

PS you can look through this link to see the sold ones with brown hair vs. those that are blond or bald:

There were some prototype and early ones that were real signatures. Finding one of those at a yard sale for a dollar....That is on my bucket list :)

If you saw one in the sold section for $900, I would be curious to know more. I say this because there has been a scam going around eBay for the last 4-5 years (it comes and goes in cycles) where some scammer bids up an item really high (usually with a new seller) and then they do something where they get your email address and Paypal account information and hijack it and drain the account. Paypal usually fixes it all for the seller...but it can be very scary and very unnerving.

I don't understand it, but I have seen it happen on everything from dolls to cell phones to collectible glass pieces. Some people are just terrible :(

This eBay help post sort of explains it--the post is older--but the scam is the same:

My point is if there are 20 dolls that are identical that sell within a range like this one and one outlier, I would think some scam was happening.

That or that seller got really, really lucky that someone was desperate for this doll and paid that amount. It happens!! Sometimes truth is stranger than fiction and people (NOT ME) have gobs of money to spend for what they want!!

On the flip side if you just saw something LISTED at this price (meaning an active auction) but not sold, then this is a case where the seller is asking for the amount--that is not the value.

Value is only what someone actually pays for an item. Sellers can ask a million dollars for something, but if no one is willing to pay it, then it will sit unsold. That is just eBay. It is a wonky, wonky wild, wild west world on that site. I have selling there 18 years now.

I hope you are lucky enough to fetch big bucks for it!! I will be very excited for you as I want everyone who sells to be successful!!

Post back with your sale info!! Blessings!

These are still very much in demand, especially signed like yours. I would sell on eBay or Etsy.

It really depends on the age of the doll. There were some hand crafted dolls that were created by Xavier Roberts, before Coleco marketing the "Cabbage Patch" line, that are worth the big money. But most are not worth much as there were so many sold on and after 1983. Here is an article that explains it more.
