Cash is what I like. I would never take a check. If it's a big ticket item you can always complete the deal at a bank. For example, have them get you a cashiers check from their bank, meet there, cash the check or verify it's authenticity and then exchange goods. I believe postal money orders can be cashed at a post office, so that might be another option.

I would ask for a bank check or cash. A bank check is the safest; you will not have to worry about counterfeit bills.

Cashiers Check but preferable cash.

i would only take a check if both parties were in the bank together, even if they have all kinds of ID - otherwise you would be taking too big a risk - lots of professional scammers work off Craigslist.

There are plenty of machines around for getting cash - or let them come back with the cash - do not get in too big a hurry to sell - be safe - not sorry.

cash.

so saying, I DID once get a counterfeit $100, which sucked, but if you insist on $20s you should be allright

cashier's checks I would not touch with a 10 foot pole, especially if sent from somewhere not in my living area - all those Nigerian scams & whatnot heavily rely on them. I'm not even sure I'd trust a money order because i've heard they can be counterfeited

Yes you can accept cashiers checks if made by a teller in your presence. Either that or cash, everything else is too risky.

If you accept cash, mark the paper money with a special pen (sold at Target) that changes color if the money is fake

I prefer Paypal, but no system is perfect, other than cash.

Accepting cash is the safest way (but mark the paper money with a pen that changes color if the money is fake). If you want to accept bank check, then both you and the buyer go to a local bank where a teller makes a cashier's check in your presence.

Do not accept personal checks / any other checks / money orders.
